1. Is the switch from DDR2 to DDR3 necessary yet?
2. What's better for fast RAM, high MHz or low timings?
3. Can an Abit IN9-Wifi 32x Max with 680i chipset support 45nm CPUs?
4. Will CPUs ever be miniaturised to 1nm?
5. Will it take DX11 cards to be able to play DX10 games well?
6. Will Crysis ever be playable with all settings cranked up on integrated graphics?
7. Is it worth upgrading from an Intel E6600?
8. Is DX10 a waste of time?
9. Will there be another major graphics card performance jump like when the 8800GTX was released?
10. Is technology moving on too fast? With upgrades seemingly appearing weekly.
11. Are we becoming far too dependant on machines and components?

You don't have to answer all or any of the questions, just ones you can shed light on :)

1) no the performance difference isn't great enough to justify the price
4) not with silicon, no
6) I don't see why not
7) only if you are doing lots of multi-thread programmes (rendering etc) in that case quad cores will be a lot better

10. No. Look at my rig in sig, i feel no need to upgrade it as of yet, since everything i do runs spot on still. I might be able to get slightly better eyecandy with the likes of crysis / cod4, but it really makes very little difference. Until "The Next Big Thing (TM)" comes out, then its unlikely i will upgrade any core components. The only thing i am looking at is the next gen of raptors when they finally make an appearance, and a new case (march).

1. Is the switch from DDR2 to DDR3 necessary yet?

Not really, there isn't much difference between the two unless you're a benchmark nut.

2. What's better for fast RAM, high MHz or low timings?

Higher mhz, although it's never a bad thing to keep the timings tight aswell.

3. Can an Abit IN9-Wifi 32x Max with 680i chipset support 45nm CPUs?

IIRC with the newer bios revisions it should be fine, although you're better off checking their website.

4. Will CPUs ever be miniaturised to 1nm?

Not with silicon and not before moores law begins to break down as the pathways between the switches become so thin that electrons just pass straight through them.

5. Will it take DX11 cards to be able to play DX10 games well?

Last I heard dx11 was being scrapped from windows 7 so it won't be out for a while anyway so don't worry about it. However when it does come around I can't see why dx11 cards won't play dx10 games as my 8800gts plays dx 9/8 games fine.

6. Will Crysis ever be playable with all settings cranked up on integrated graphics?

I think the question should be "will crysis ever be playable at all on integrated graphics?", atm the future is bleak in that respect.

7. Is it worth upgrading from an Intel E6600?

Depends entirely on what you use your pc for, if it's for photo or video editing, you'd do well to go quad, if just for gaming, you'd be better off just overclocking it and waiting till quads become cheaper.

8. Is DX10 a waste of time?

At the moment maybe, there's not a lot going on with it atm in the way of games but then the situation was the same when dx9 first came out so best to wait and see wha happens.

9. Will there be another major graphics card performance jump like when the 8800GTX was released?

Pretty certain there will always be big jumps like that every 1-2 years, and things should get even more interesting with intel entering the graphics card market soon.

10. Is technology moving on too fast? With upgrades seemingly appearing weekly.

Yes! choice is a great thing but there is always far too much stuff on the horizon to feel like i have made the right choice of components

11. Are we becoming far too dependant on machines and components?

Definitely! if the modern man was suddenly thrust into a "end of the world" scenario he wouldnt have a clue how to survive without googling "how to boil an egg" and he'd be bored without a game to play :p
