Severe noobs first build! be gentle :)

nvidia doesn't support dx 11...

and games are going that way now so I would not advise it...

If you're not sure get a single 5770 and then see what fermi has to offer Q1 2010 (but the prices will be very high).

Imo I would go with the 5850 and crossfire later. Nvidia is just not worth it at the time.

Also overclocking shouldn't take more than 15 mins if you never overclocked. Those who overclocked before take less than 5 mins to set it up :p

This kinda comments is misleading to people that are new to overclocking.. It took me a lot longer to get my i7 stable @ 4GHz, and I have been tinkering with PC's for many years.

Agreed. Yes, it can take only a few minutes to set up an overclock, but it still takes potentially weeks to get a *stable* overclock. There is a difference between having an overclock and having a stable overclock.

Excuse my ignorance, but couldn't I just use the same settings as someone else with the same motherboard/processor? or does this just not work?

You can use other settings as a guide, but each chip produced has different tolerances so there's no guarantee those settings will work for you.

With plenty of guides found on the net and forums like these it really doesn't take that long. Don't know why you're saying it takes long to overclock it

And what do you mean by stabilizing it?

The Ud5 mobo is very easy to overclock and even a person who is not familiar with bios after a bit of research can understand what's going on.

At least that's how I learned.

Personally I wouldn't trust OCUK (or anyone else) to do the OC for me, I'd rather do it myself.

That would be your loss as there is a wealth of knowledge available from some very helpful people on these forums.

No one knows everything, least of all me :).

eh? I think most enthusiasts want to do their own OC. Not sure what you mean? I have already made your point and I offered to help the OP with his overclock. I just mean that it takes the fun and the 100% reassurance out of your build if some dude on a production line does it for you. that's obvious surely?

That isn't what you said, you said you wouldn't trust anyone here to help you with it. If you can't trust people here I'm not sure where you can!

Misunderstanding at any rate, let it be forgotten :).

Yes, I meant OCUK the company, not the forum. And I meant do the OC physically, not offer guidance. but yes, forgotten :)

Ok then! been away for a couple of days but still been reading more reviews etc. I've decided to trust the masses and let you all guide me through the overclock :P so my build is in your hands :) however I will be buying an nvidia card as my girlfriend has just bought me the stereoscopic 3d glasses for xmas :D
I have now gathered the money together and plan to purchase tomorrow or wednesday (depending when my cheques clear!). Does this build look ok for finality:

Thanks all!!

forgot to say, I might hold out on the gfx card and save the extra £80ish for the gtx 295, would it be worth this or is it just going ott? also thinking the h50-1 corsair water cooler might be better? cheers!

I'd probably go for the 295 if I had to have an Nvidia card now. The H50 is probably better than what you've got there at the moment, you might want to get an extra fan for it so you can have it in push-pull.

In the spec above are the to noctua fans for elsewhere in the case? Because that heatsink comes with 2 already. :)

hmm, I'm really undecided about the card, I'll have to wait longer to get the 295 but it is better (I am a 'want it right now' kinda guy tho :P). The extra fans are indeed for optional slots in the case. Do I need an extra fan for the H50?
thanks :)

Replace the Air cooler with the H5O1.

Rather than splashing £300 on a Nvidia graphics card that offers no DX11 support. You should buy yourself 2x ATI Radeon HD 5770 for the same price. This way you have DX11 support for future games and better performance.

I don't think you will be needing the Akasa exhaust fan :)

**Note** If you don't intend to use 2x graphics card for crossfire then going down the i5 route will save you even more money. i5 performs the same as the i7 920 when they are both running on 1 graphics card.
