SGS3 reflash, Which ROM

The Missus's SGS3 Died whilst we were on holiday, apparantly it tried to upgrade and failed.

I can now get it to the recovery screen but Kies Fails.
Was gonna try with Odin and a custom ROM but I'm way out of the loop.

What the best, cleanest, stabel release?

it all comes down to personal preference. I'd say either Cyanogenmod, Android revolution or Paranoid Android

So many to choose from, best off going with the simple option of CM11 or Slimkat as I doubt you wife will use any of the features from the others.

I'd flash stock to start with just to make sure everything still works.

When I do the recovery option Home/PWR/Vol- I get:

Warning!!

A cusotm OS can cause prolems in phone and installed applications.

If you want to DL a cusomt OS, press the volume up key.
Otherwise press the volume down key to cancel.

If I hit up it goes to Odin mode, down just reboots the phone at which point I just get the same screen.

So Im guessing a flash thru Odin is my only choice?

Nope this is a full stock phone, never fiddled with and full of samsung rubbish

You need to follow my guide and install custom recovery (philz touch is my favourite).

In my guide I linked to the xda thread to install the custom recovery, first time has to be done in Odin mode. Once its installed its easy to install from there.

Is the phone out of Warranty?

Flashing Custom Recovery's etc Might trip KNOX will make your device warranty Void?

Yup out of warranty as it was refurbed by insurance, not much use they were tbh, £90 to claim and then they told me I couldn't claim for another 12 month! Utter joke, thankfully I didnt have to pay a monthly premium for the insurance

There is no Knox on an s3 and you can flash as much as you want from new and keep your warrentee intact!

Just getting round to this and first try with Philz Touch 6.26.6 and Odin 3.04 gavr me a fail

Gonna recheck everything and retry

How long should I be at the SetupConnection step? :/

EDit about 5-10mins haha, for it to say no PIT partition and then kick up another fail
retried with Odin running as Admin:
