I started Overclocking my 8800GT last night (large cooler fitted by Asus), and So far I've managed the following speeds:

GPU - 670mhz
Memory - 2000mhz
Shader - 1600mhz

So far I've only seen temperatures of 63 degrees and below. How far will I be able to go before things start to get critical? Will the temperature increase quickly? I'm just concerned I'm going to do damage despite the low temps.

From my experience the temps do not go up much from stock when you overclock, though i have my fan set to 50% and it never goes above 70c, this with GPU 700 shader 1730 memory 2000. The GT can go up to 100c :eek: though it wouldn't be to good for the life expectancy of the card at that temp. ;) Don't worry about damaging your card when overclocking, your limited by the volts on the GT as how far you can clock it and increasing the volts is really the only way you can damage it.

May be worth using the artifact tester within ATI Tools and also do 2-3 runs of 3DMark06 back to back at least an hour after your PC's been booted, check the temps under load via Rivatuner, also is your fan working nearer 100% when it gets over a certain temp etc
Once your happy with your clocks and temps, then have a good session on a game to see if you get any artifacts or stability issues
 
OK, after 3dMark06 locking my PC up with the memory at this setting I've been out and replaced my PSU (my old one was a mere 385W :eek).

Now I've got one of these little puppies:

....which is much quieter, but 3DM06 is still locking my PC with the memory speeds above 1900mhz. The funny thing is according to SmartDoctor the temperature doesn't rise above 61 degrees. I'm beginning to wonder just how accurate this temperature reading is :confused:
