Currently have XFX 6600GT @ 600/1200 along with winnie 3000 @ 2.6 on asus a8n-sli mobo

i normally play cs, along with some css, hl2, q3, q4 etc

seeing the price of the ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB is £170 and is considered cheap for the card, is it worth to sell my 6600gt and spend another ~£110 on this new card?

or is the 512mb a much better improvement, or shall i just wait for DX10?

normally play at 1280X1024 on my TFT, i think its the same on my CRT, cant remember exactly

thanks

DX10 likely wont play any noticeable part in games for a quite while yet.
With the cheap price & considering how much an improvement over your current card the upgrade would be, i would say get the X1800XT.

Id say go for the XT to, from a 6600 GT thats gona be an absolute astonishing performance boost, i wouldn't go rushing out for a DX10 card when they appear, as £500+ a pop for an operating system (Vista) is not worth it, by the time theres some decent DX10 stuff out, games etc... that its worth buying a DX10 card for, the first lot of DX10 cards (R600/G80) are gona be well old and struggle in em, so your gona have to shell out yet another £500+ on another card that won't.

Im just keeping my x1800 XT till the DX10 stuff starts to appear that its worth buying a DX10 card for, that way im only going to be shelling out one lot of £500+, and not a grand odd, as as i said, if you buy the first lot of DX10 cards at £500+ a pop, then your gona have to shell out yet another £500+ when the DX10 stuff starts arriving, which wont be for a good while yet.

I just cant see R600/G80 DX10 cards arriving, and having about 100 DX10 games following them outa the traps, be lucky to see 5 a year, id say about 6 months after their release there may be 1x, and at £500+, thats seriously not worth it at all, not for 1x game and an operating system.

What LoadsaMoney said. The performance of the X1800XT will blow you away when you compare it to playing on your 6600GT, I moved from a GTO² @ X850 XT PE and am still completely astonished. :D
