I am absolutly fed up with halifax :(. there useless..... Keep sticking there prices up as well..

I'm looking for a fixed fee share dealing account with shares from aboard.

Now I've looked though moneysupermarket.com and found IWEB and its just £10 per trade.

Accounts are held in sterling and allow access to the major European exchanges as well as the NYSE and NASDAQ. Paper certificates are available but a rematerialisation fee of £10 + VAT is charged for this service (dematerialisation of stock is free). Comprehensive analysis of the US, UK and European markets, including news and events, and individual company reports are accessible to help with investment decisions. You can access your account online, via your WAP phone, Personal Digital Assistant (palmtop computer), and even on Interactive Digital TV. SMS text messages may also be used to alert customers of market news, stock climbs, etc. free of charge.

But has anyone got this account and is it any good?
Also anyone with accounts that have foreign markets on?
Also is there any decent magazine on share trading?

How did you get into this stuff, any hints or tips for the members on here that might want to get into trading, post something we can actually use :p

I got into it because I don't mind taking a risk, and normall saving accounts are crud. Who wants to earn 7% a year.. what good is taht unless you invest 100's of thousands. I've made some money and lost some money. So far nothing majour. Best pay out so far has beena profit £40 but seeing as I only had £70 worth of shares thats not bad for 10months work..

But then I also lost £100 it crashed the shares whent down to 20pence each and a takeoffer bid means I had to sell for that price :(

I have an account with Iweb ( formerly Imiweb ) but it has been dormant for ages sinced I switched to the far more lucrative world of sports betting.

Do you realise what's funny here, IWEB are owned by Halifax. Having said that, it's who I use and have been using them for more than 5 years. No problems to report.

For my placement year I was eligible for the companys share purchase plan. I put £50 a month in over 6 months (even though you pay monthly, there are two dates in the year the actual shares are bought for you) and left with approx £300 in shares. I sold them a couple of months ago for £450 (after fees) which I didn't think was bad at all.

It was all handled by SmithBarney who are an american company and I beleive a part of Citigroup. Their website was pretty good and allowed you to handle it all online, and I beleive it also allowed the purchase of shares elsewhere.

Unfortunately the fact it's a US company would probably not really make it a worthwhile option as I had to fill out tax forms to say my shares were exempt from US tax and post them back to the states, and speaking to someone on the phone cost a fortune!!

This is definately something I'd be interested in having a serious look into though as well, so keep up updated with your findings.
