Time to whip out the benchmarks!
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T vs AMD FX-8150: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/146?vs=434
They pretty much trade blows against each other. But remember this is old gen 6 cores vs new gen 8 cores... So single core performance the Phenom has the upper hand.
AMD Phenon II X6 1090T vs Intel i5 2500K: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/146?vs=288
Well would you look at that... The 2500K wipes the 1090T away, with less power consumption. Placing the 2500K against the FX-8150 will just show how disappointing Bulldozer is... However, it's AMD's new architecture since K10's release in 2007, so newer gen Bulldozer would perform better after AMD improves it. Only reason I can see if you want AMD is for this reason... Piledriver is expected to be released in 2012. How it will perform, no one knows yet.
But for the best price/performance so fair is definitely the 2500K. You won't get a better CPU than it for a good while... However, Intel's Ivy Bridge is coming soon early next year... But it's a die shrink so don't expect major performance boost over the current gen.
If you do want to stick with AMD, get a 1090T for now with a cheaper AM3+ board (They'll still be as good as the Crosshair), and jump to Piledriver when it's released (assuming it will work with current AM3+ boards).
