Shared hardrive setup

Hi, not sure is this right category to post but its related with network so I think its ok to post here. I connected my portable hard drive to router and shared files. On my PC i can see the files and that's fine everything works. But what I'm trying to achieve is: Can I setup my network so that my Samsung TV
(model: UE40C8000XKXXU) would see that shared portable hard drive? I've tried but I can't see hard drive, I thought if I connect ethernet cable from TV to router, the TV would somehow see my hard drive. Basically I want to download movie straight to hard drive and then play on TV, I'm trying to get rid off copying movie then plugging hard drive to TV usb.
 
My old Samsung TV would let me browse the network but the new KS7000 doesn't, I need to push stuff to it or plug directly to the USB port. I think some software licensing has caused Samsung an issue.

I don't know that TV, but I assume it could access media one of two ways:

1. Through directly access the network share and files like you do when you browse a share on a PC
2. By having a device on your network that can read the files directly and act as a DLNA server. your TV would then 'find' this DLNA server and the media it is serving.

For option two this could be your PC, of which Plex is a good example of something that can act as a DLNA server. It could also be that your router has a DLNA server built in that would be more convenient often because it is always on - check the router settings.

I'm assuming your hard drive is connected to your router by USB and your TV either with an ethernet cable or it is connected to your home wifi.

TV is connected with an ethernet cable and yes hard drive is connected by USB
 
ok thanks for your answer I will try one more thing together with this media server it gave me an idea :)
