Anybody here own any shares?

I just brought my first ones today with RBoS. (Using my student loan...)

For those of you who own shares how long do you keep them in for?

I keep hold of shares for 63 days, which is the optimum time.

I have a few shares. Used to have more but cashed them in. As for keeping shares, get to know the markets and the companies you have shares in. As you know, the price can be up one day and down the next. No hard and fast rules. Just get as much info on what you are doing and learn as much as possible about all things related to 'Shares'. Good luck.

I bought some a while back and will just hold onto them for a few years then go and check them to give myself a surprise, knowing my luck I will have lost all my cash.

so basically you blew loan money on something you have no clue about..

ever thought of random bets at a bookies instead ?

Isn't it HBoS and not RBoS?

Shares in HBoS are about £10 I think at the moment, highest for about 5years.

How long is a piece of string?

Oh and maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned and set in my ways but isn't a student loan supposed to be used for costs related to being a student, not a taxpayer-subsidised way for you to play the stockmarket.

RBOS own Natwest don't they? Totally separate to Bank o Scotland who merged with Halfix.

Correct. You'd be surprised at who owns who in the banking game. Working in Treasury I know most of them.

Cyldesdale Bank for example is actually part of National Australia Bank.
Abbey is part of Banco Santander (but I guess most people know that one.)
