I have a home server running Server 2012 R2 and I'm upgrading to fibre soon.

What I want to do is be able to access my Videos folder on the server from the internet.

I have been using the anywhere access feature but the file size limit is 2GB

Is there a simple way to achieve this?

Like a folder on my desktop on a remote PC and I just drop videos into and its actually copying them to my Home server?

WebDav is another method, this uses port 80 so is likely to more accessible from Work for example as some companies block FTP (port 21/22)

The maximum file size that can be transferred using WebDAV is limited to just under 4gb ....

Is this the case?

I too missed the part where you wanted to copy to it.

How often do you need to be able to drop a remote video onto it? I would have said Dropbox then copy locally once you can but I can't think of many instances you'd need this?

Once or twice a week I'll have videos on my camera I need to copy to the server...I can then free up my camera and I know my stuff is safe and trickling up to crashplan

Saves me copying at home...it would be so convenient for me.

Plex is for watching videos that are on your home server, you're looking to do the opposite.

So still FTP for my money.

I think for will be too slow...I've got plex running in the server already and use it daily to stream around the house...thought I was missing a key feature lol.

It will depend entirely on your broadband speed at both sites. If you want it to go faster, you'll need faster upload from the remote site and faster download for your server.

Whatever software/protocol you use, it will be the broadband that limits you. FTP can be very fast with the right connection.

I think they throttle ftp

Doesn't the share need to be synced both ways with bit torrent sync...what happens when you delete the photos on your phone? Does it delete them off your server ?

Like Dropbox?

I need to be able to copy a file from PC to server...not sync directories both ways...I understand that bit torrent sync as a toggle for sync all off...but this still means when I delete of PC it will delete off server...

Not sure what you mean Bit torrent sync has no file size limitations, you can share files twice that size.

If your storage on some devices is FAT based and will not allow above 2 or 4GB files thats another problem entirely.

I mean I don't want to sync anything.

I want to copy a file from a PC to my server. Then delete it from the PC. Leaving it on the server.

I don't have 7TB on my work laptop for example.

I think I'm being misunderstood.

I don't want to sync anything. I just want to copy a file to home server..Thats pretty much it.

Bittorrent syncs files..I don't want that, I want a one direction copy of an AVCHD file from PC to server then delete the AVCHD file from PC leaving it on server.
