Hi, just need some help here. I am no networking guru but im sure most of you guys are.

I have 2 PC's - an old crappy dell one with a wireless internet receiver which I use for browsing the net and a custom built PC (spec as in the sig below) with no net.

I have connected both PC's with one crossover network cable and have shared folders all working perfectly - however I am trying to share the internet connection but to no avail! I will try and provide as much information as I can to show you guys the settings and what I have tried and all that so you may know what my problem could be. Firstly here are the TCP/IP settings I have on both machines:

I have also enabled the setting to share the internet on the Dell PC

I have tried many different ports on both machines (eg. 192.168.0.60, 192.168.0.12) and have tried assigning the settings to automatic.

I have de-activated the windows firewall on both PC's and am running xp32 on both machines. I have had a shared internet working between these PC's once before but then I upgraded my motherboard on the custom PC from an Asus P5n-e SLI to an Abit IP35 and it no longer works. I have created new networks countless amounts of times with the windows network wizard and it still never seems to work for me. Also I am using ESET NOD32 as a virus protector.

Please, if anyone knows where I'm going wrong I would really appreciate the help!

set the default gateway on the custom machine to 192.168.0.5

you may also have to "bridge" your wireless and wired connections on the dell machine.

ok ive done this now so both my machines are on 192.168.0.5.

but it still doesnt work :( I thought I wasnt supposed to have two things on the network having conflicting addresses. Do I have to restart before the changes take affect?

im sorry man, I am a baffoon when it comes to networking things together!

where do i change the default gateway?

EDIT: found it, sorry I didnt realise it was right under the subnet box. I've changed it now but it still doesnt work. Also I kept getting an error when trying to bridge my wired and wireless connection so I had to de-activate "share internet" on the wireless network settings and now it will bridge.

but still I cant access the net on the other machine

ok I restarted the dell PC and it no longer has a huge red cross through the wireless connection, and it is working. But the internet connection is still not being shared over to the other machine

but what is its address? go to start > run, type "cmd" press enter, in black box type "ipconfig"

ipaddress should be listed in there, probably starting with 192.168.x.x?

ok change the ip address to match that! for example the custom machine 192.168.1.2 and the dell machine 192.168.1.5 (wired connection!)

Gaz1988, if I knew how to carve stone into the shape of a man I would build a large monument of you and place you in my garden. You are a God amongst men, light amongst darkness and a technological badman at networking.

ergo, IT BLOODY WORKED!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP
