Ok on the main internet pc there is a internet connection via usb modem.

I need to share this connection with the pc downstairs AND the xbox 360.

On the main PC there is 2 network connections on the motherboard. So i have a 2 cat 5 cable's going from the main pc to the pc downstairs and the xbox 360.

Before i reformated my hard drive it was possible to get a network connection on both the 360 and the pc downstairs.

Now that i have reformated my hard drive, setting up the network connection and no internet connection is active. Now when i click on the advance properties of my isp sharing of the internet was unticked (even though i selected i wanted to share my connection when setting up home network)

Underneath that it says what connection do i want to share :-

Local area connection
or
Local area connection(2)

It is not possible to select both and i can only select one (as its a drop down selection menu) So i have to keep swaping settings if i want to go on xbox live, which is not acceptable.

Does anyone know the correct way of getting the net connection on both LAN connections?

Ive been trying to sort it out for a couple of hours now and im pulling my hair out i cant figure out where to go next. Like it said, it is possible as i had it working before i reformated my harddrive.

I'm not sure what you did but doing a quick look in connections I would say try this. Connect your computer to your main internet PC through one of the ethernet ports.

Then establish an internet connection between them two. Add the X-Box in the other ethernet, and on the LAN connection icon between your Internet PC and other one right click it /properties/advanced tab/tickbox allow other comps to share your internet connection/Settings/Add.../And add the IP of the XBox

I'm not entirely sure that'll work though. However what I do know what will work for sure is a Router. You need a router to make your life easier.

Drag a box around local area connection 1 and 2
right click, select "bridge"
once bridge is made go into advanced for the usb modems network properties
share with - bridge

easy when u know how ;)

You might like to consider investing in a combined modem/router as they are pretty cheap now. This allows you to have a 'permanent' conneciton to the internet even when your main PC is switched off, so all your 3 clients can operate independently of each other.

e.g. lets say for some reason you need to reboot your main pc, but someone is playing on Xbox Live right now. With the usb modem, you will disconnect him by rebooting the PC. With a router he can keep playing regardless.

Ethernet Routers also tend to give lower pings than a usb modem.
