Hi all.

Just got my new rMBP loving it so far. However I am trying to setup a 'sync' between my server and the mac

I'm basically setting the server to copy stuff to my mac every so often if there are new files on the server (for example if I download a song on the server it is automatically copied across to the mac)

I have setup the shared under system preferences > Sharing and setup the correct permissions for users etc

However once the mac has disconnected from the network it seems to think I am using an incorrect username and password (which im not as I have entered it about 5 times) and I have to delete and re add the shares on the mac for it to allow me to access it.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Cheers

you may want to try username@<domain/machine name> to access the folder to tell the mac that your using a none local profile to access the folder, if its a windows server.

Also you may want to automount the folder as a drive on the mac itself, lion onwards mounts shares at share point and not folder level, which is a pain as OS X don't support deep level folder permissions. So you may need to make sure that you have permissions to that folder all the way from root.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in the op but I'm actually trying to access mac shares from the windows server not the other way round.

I'm still have the problem of it refusing to let me in even when I am using the correct password :/

Try the Username with \ in front of it i.e \kevin then your password.

so your trying to push the files from the server to the mac client?
wont it be better the other way round? to tell the mac client to grab the files from the windows server as the client may not always be on when the server tries to push the files?

Are you using a AD on a Domain? or is is it on a workgroup?

The easiest way is to make both the shortname for the accounts on the machines the name with the same password.

If they are not the same when entering the password on the windows machine to access the mac, you will have to tell it that the username is on the mac with <nameofmac\ipaddress>\username or username@<nameofmac\ipaddress>.

If your not on a domain it may not recognise the machine name, and if your ip address changes due to DHCP, it will ask you for your password again and again.

You will need to enable SMB file sharing on the mac as the windows machine wont know how write to AFP.

Try clearing your credentials on your windows profile as it may be trying to use an incorrect one.

Hi, thanks for that. the reason I'm trying to push them to the mac is that I use a central sync software (goodsync) to sync files between my clients and the server.

I am not using a domain so i would be using a workgroup then I assume.

I am not accessing the mac by its IP (although that is assigned by DHCP except when plugged in.) but by its name

accessing using <nameofmac\ipaddress>\username or username@<nameofmac\ipaddress>

doesn't seem to make any difference.

Trying to access the shares in windows it prompts you for a username and password and even when I enter the correct ones it says that it is invalid.

Thanks

Just for testing purpose, have you tried giving premissions to everyone for read and write. If the share is set up correctly then you should have access to the folder without issues. Then its just a case of permissions.

You can always add the username and password of your windows machine as and account on your mac.

If your still not getting any joy, I can only offer a teamviewer session for me to remote into your machines for a look.
