Hey Guys

Was hoping someone could help me with sharing my new virgin broadband connection. I was originally on bulldog and have a Netgear DG834gV2 which was great for my adsl conection but i now have a cable modem. I want to share the interent connection with 2 PCs (1 def via ethernet, the other could be via wireless), 1 xbox360 (ethernet), and a wireless connection for a laptop.

Whats the best bang for buck solution out there at the moment. Im a complete networking n00b so something quick and simple would be great.

Any help/info greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Kempy

Hi,
you'll most likely want a standalone router plugged into the modem that you get from virgin (you can hook it up using the ethernet connection). I personally use the Zyxel P334U, which is rock solid and feature-packed, but this is probably a bit over-complicated for you if you just want something quick and simple. The Linksys routers seem to be held in good regard by their owners.

Just got one of these for my Virgin Media sharing network.

Works a treat, has four ethernet ports and easy setup wireless-g.

One of the cheapest and best solutions if you ask me, ive had mine connected upto my ntl connection for the past 5yrs, on 24/7 and has worked flawlessly.

Anyone with a 360 and that Router ever ran the Xbox 360 Network Test? I'd buy it but first I need to know if it passes the 360 NAT settings test :p

I dont really understand what your asking but what i can say is my sons 360 works fine via my router - its a PEAK wireless router (id never heard of this make but it was cheap from my local pc shop). I have to say it works without any problems at all

As long as you can forward the ports, any router should pass the test.

AFAIK the Linksys (and most third party, www.linksysinfo.org for the win) firmware does uPnP, so the 360 should be able to set up the forwarding itself.

Oddly, despite all my previous routers supporting uPnP, only my Linksys has been able to work flawlessly with live, the other 2 had problems connecting to servers, other players etc.

Yes it does, but my router also has problems with certain PC games too, due to port forwarding problems, and NAT restrictions etc, so i'd like to know if that router works well for things like that and so on, since with a Belkin you cant even forward one of the ports the 360 "needs" cuz it's a Belkin Wifi port or something along those lines :p
