Sorry for the odd post but my work may require me to start "clean shaving" i use a remington electric jobby atm and it takes it down to i believe a number 1? the main reason i stopped using wet shaving was due to spots but this was a couple of years back now. Any preventive measures i can use or can i get as close as i can get without clean shaving using any type of electric device?

what kind of job requires this?

Bar work for weatherspoons.

To add to my previous post the kind i have atm is classed as a beard trimmer not sure if that makes a difference.

1.5mm is the closest i can get do any other electric shavers get closer than that?

if you turn up without a shave will they send you home?

I've just got a fairly cheap Philips Philishave electric shaver and having shaved about 15-20 minutes ago my skin is really, really smooth, probably just as smooth as if I wet shaved.

If you're worried about spots then Gillette do a range of products that you might be interested in.

Use this before wet shaving: Gillette Pre-Shave Face Wash.

After you have shaved you should try using some Nivea face cream, very good for preventing dry and sore skin and also good for wrinkles I hear. Pick it up at Boots.

Nivea Moisturising cream

Also, aftershave is a good way to stop spots although don't overdo it because it can give you sore skin. :)

i used to get the odd spot from shaving years ago, now i use a mach3 fusion but use the King of Shaves shaving gel, has tea tree oil or something i believe and i never ever get spots from it.

I'm thinking that 'having' to be clean shaven all the time would stress me out too much. if it was me I'd probably have told them thanks but no thanks.

considering most of the weatherspoons clientele either a) havent heard of a razor or shave once a year or b) are too young to grow man stubble then i wouldnt think its an issue working there.

I find it utterly bizarre that an employer thinks they can dictate how you look.

Within reason of course, if you were going in with a beard to your knees which was all knotted up and discoloured, then I'd see sense in them saying something.

How ever, why they think they've got the right to tell you to "clean shave" I don't know.

I got told to have a shave today by my boss. I replied with "no".

Working for your Dad does have at least one advantage then. :o

I use something like this:

safety_razor.jpg

Close enough shave without a huge risk of slashing yourself open. Would never go back to electric after using blades like this. The 3 blade things and all others like that are useless for me, I have very thick hair and it takes a small lifetime shaving with them.

The above works best for me and you cant ask to get that much closer.

Wash face
Apply shave foam/gel/soap
Lightly apply razor to face (if you are pressing hard you will cut too many layers of skin off and get more in grown hairs)
Rinse with Hot water
Rinse with Cold water
Apply your aftershave balm of choice.

Fool proof and will yield the least no. of spots per shave :P

Always shave with the grain not against .

Say what? Of course they do!? An electric shaver should leave something like the thickness of a sheet of foil behind, mabye 0.001mm. Having shaved with an electric shaver you will be "clean shaven". Heck, the difference between the amount an electric shaver leaves behind and the amount a razor does is going to be a few hours of growth!

Oh, the irony of this thread ....

I just got myself a remmington beard trimmer today and made me a beard out of my unshaven mess that I had growing for the last two weeks ...

I thought that you couldnt be forced to be clean shaven at any job in the UK, with the equal rights stuff.
