The funny thing is if Man U had signed Shearer, Sheringham wouldn't even have signed for them. Shearer is head and shoulders above Sheringham, I was actually shocked that people rate Sheringham so highly. :confused:
 
The fact of the matter is that Sheringham, even at 5 years older than Shearer, has played better than him this season and better than Shearer ever could again if he continued playing. He's just not a great player anymore, outshone this season by Ameobi.

He shouldnt have even been playing this season.
He was persuaded to stay on another year even though he knew he shouldnt and had only envisaged being a bit part player but the injuries to other forwards made him play way more games than he should have.

He rightly packed in England years ago to concentrate on club football and to let others have a crack without him getting in the way.

Hes had 3 very serious injuries and has had around 20 operations on his legs - no wonder he struggles nowadays!

Taking him to the world cup , even if fit , would be ludicrous.

We'll have to agree to disagree about the bone idle Ameobi , I dont rate him at all.

Maybe now yes but when shearer was good he was the best could score out of anything and he ALWAYS did score one player who always delivered, this never happens anymore.
As for taking him to the world cup, no hes well past it he knows it he was past it for a couple of years but souness kept him on and he got tempted to break jacky milburns record which he did.

Well yes, you're right - Shearer has been a better player overall but Sheringham is a better player now and has been for a long time. Shearer hasn't been anywhere near deserving of his regular starting place at Newcastle for at least 2 years.

Hasnt he been top scorer for the last X many seasons?

Personally I think he has fully deserved his place.
 
Shearer has started 40 games compared to Ameobi's 28 and also I'm sure a few of Shearer's goals have come from the spot.

But that's not the point, if you watch any of Shearers perfomances from the last few years (especially this year) he added very little to Newcastle in terms of work-rate and holding up the ball (something he used to do well). This is the reason why he was undeserving of his place in the Newcastle side.

The fact is the original poster was being stupid, Shearer would be a waste of space in an England shirt! Typical Geordy being over-zealous! :p
 
the trouble with shearers last two seasons was that team was so **** he had to spend most of his time in defence or in midfield to babysit rubbish players. he couldnt say up front and do what he did best. also he was starved of decent service too.

And the idea was to use him sparingly , much like Teddy.

I agree , and hes lazy.
He also laughs when he misses chances , Ronaldinho can get away with that , Shola Ameobi aka Sammuel Netto cant.

i hate ameobi.. if he is ever considered for the first 11 next season then something seriously wrong has happened.

fair enough we come good at the back end of the season.. but we really have some tripe playing for us
