Shearer's season over

More quotes from the number one geordie soul brother.

That’s it, it’s all over, There’s a tear in the medial ligament which, although it does not require an operation, means I will be in a knee brace for a few weeks. It’s disappointing but I’ve got no regrets, I’ve had a great career.

“Deep down I knew when I limped out of the Stadium of Light that it was probably the end and I think the fans knew it as well. They know I don’t stay down unless I’m badly hurt.

"My dream as a kid was to play for Newcastle United and to score goals at St James’ Park.

“It doesn’t matter that I didn’t win a trophy because I did it my way and I lived the dream. Unless you come from the area you wouldn’t understand that mentality. Playing for the club is everything.

“I broke Jackie’s record and no one can take that away from me. I’ve never had any regrets.

“Some people think it was a fantastic way to go out anyway by scoring in our 4-1 win at Sunderland last week. I think they might be right.”

Might sound naff..

But i feel honoured to have been around when he was playing for newcastle.

So in the future i can be one of these old guys that remembers watching the legend score week in week out.

Nice thought for the future

am gutted tbh.

i think he should come on for the last game of the season for he last ten minutes, abit like what they did for martin keown at arsenal and he went up front lol.

A Newcastle legend and as a Newcastle fan myself I think we gonna struggle to replace him even though he's been a bit past it this year.

Thanks for all the memories and goals Al :D

Almost impossible this but what would everyone say was his best goal? I always remember that one against Everton watching it on Sky I think Newcastle were behind then the ball came on the volley to super Al and he rocketed into the net with me going nuts!!

Atleast he never dived

Seem to remember a disgraceful dive by Shearer in the 1995 Charity Shield against Everton, was really disappointed in him. Might have been a league match in the mid90s but it was definitely against Everton in August.

Anyway, a proper legend. I was looking at his stats the other day and the most outrageous thing is the number of substitute appearances he has. Out of 734 appearances, only 15(!!!!) were as sub. I can't think of anyone even remotely close to that, I mean you name pretty much any outfield player in the prem who has played more than a couple hundred games, look up their stats and you won't find many with such a low subs:apps ratio. There might be one or two foreigners who were brought in as the finished article maybe but as for homegrown players, forget it.

He's the best Premiership player of all-time and in terms of Prem goals no one is even remotely close, Andy Cole is like 100 behind or something stupid. The joke was even a few years after his international retirement, he was still the best English striker.

AS9, I salute you o/

Great english goal scorer , i think he should maybe gone to Man United or spain or somewhere , i found at Newcastle he never had great support upfront , his goal record was second to none , but he never got any trophies ect

All the Newcastle fans can hold their heads high to a great footballer and a legend , one of the prem ships greatest

I was thinking he would be brought on in injury time in their last game of the season to have a proper send off. Probably not going to happen if his knee is in a brace though. Even if he could just stroll onto the pitch as a sub at the end, he would get the crowd reaction that he deserves.

Fantastic player for club and country. I can honestly say that I will miss seeing a Shearer goal on Match of the Day and the like. The one hand in the air celebration, two hands when he gets his second... Brilliant.

Thanks for the memories.

Cracking player, its such a shame his career had to end through injury.

I'm glad that he managed to hit a few milestones on his way out, despite not winning any silverware.

Still, he will be back in a few years.

was at the match today and it was really sad when the lads came out and lined up without shearer knowing that he would never be in the team again.

he got a fair bit of appreciation aimed at him as well even though he didn't emerge from the dugout.

that poster on the ground is fantastic and massive. it should be left there for another 10 years.
