"Shell Tax generator"

:D at that.

I can definately tell the difference between Optimax and cheaper petrol in mine, always fill up with Optimax.

Haven't tried the £2 a litre race fuel yet and not likely to.

Strangely Jet petrol seems to be the best of the crap stuff if I'm stuck up north or something ;)

Are you unable to focus once you get into nice surroundings? I've got 2 Shell stations within 3 or 4 miles of me.

"Makes No Difference"

Maybe not in your VTR, but Fifth Gear tested it and got 14bhp and 26lb ft torque more in an STi than on supermarket fuel. I'd say that was a fair old difference.

i think allmost all jap performance cars see the benefit

as over in japan they not only have 97RON they have 99RON too i believe.

It does make a difference on turbo charged cars for sure. Furthermore EVO (IIRC) did RR day tests with different fuel types and it showed a clear improvement. :)

This change has been confirmed now.

"Shell Optimax is to be replaced by V-Power very soon. The UK version of V-Power will be 99ron and not 100ron which is seen in other countries. All Shell Retailers have been invited to a launch day at the end of the month.
Shell are in the process of running down stocks of Optimax to a level where V-Power can be mixed.

I'm not sure when the official name change will be, but it will be a lengthy process to change all signage on sites, update all IT equipment and the Optimax signage on tankers will need to be removed or replaced. It will probably remain similarly priced to Optimax.

Shell also plan to release V-Power Diesel in the UK, its a high performance diesel and the same which was used by Audi at Le-Mans."

So it's actually going up by one ron point too then? (99 as apposed to the current 98ron of Optimax).

That's a bonus, but it's a shame we aren't getting the full 100ron :(

Isn't optimax 98.6? Maybe they just rounded up :p

Or more likely added some Bioethanol like tesco fuel to bump up the octance.

My scoob runs like a dog on 95 and 98 octane so it only gets 100 octane now, which is what it is mapped for...

:D

Aye 100 RON would be nice

I suppose I can no longer get the peace of mind of putting exactly the right RON (98) in my car :(

I don't understand what you mean?

Using higher ron than the car is actually mapped for is a GOOD thing, it's a bit of an extra safety net.

Yes, despite the fact that my car has been specifically mapped for Optimax, I like to run it on Morrisons finest 95ron rat's pee.

I like the mettalic tinkly noise my engine makes on said pee, and it also makes the knock level indicator on my Power FC make nice patterns on the display

How odd, that metallic Tinkly noise you mentioned is what i get in the Subaru L series 1.8 litre when i put my foot flat.

Im gonna have to go and try optimax now to see if it stops it :D

Im gonna feel like such a pleb filling that car up with Optimax :o
