Cheaper ?just going on games consoles ... dreamcast £199

pc ... I was paying £400 for a 8mb graphics card back in 1999 ... the equivalent today is over £1000 easy

well one of his lines was " Everything is cheaper and a lot more powerful now"

Which does not apply to everything :) I've lived through the good old 80/90 /00

Vhs ....ET anyone .... £80 I think it was

He's talking about development cost. No one had attempted what Shenmue did (remember, this project started WAY before 1999). Everything was new, tools needed to be built (for Saturn then Dreamcast) and organising the project was well out of the traditional scope of game development.

Now they are using UE, an off the shelf engine which can get them most of the way out of the box. Times have changed

Just over $3,600,000 raised so far. After the initial mad rush, its slowed down a lot, but the money is still coming in.

Wonder if it can do another $1.4M in 22 days though, to meet all the stretch goals.

I think there is a good chance it will make all the current stretch goals :) Seems like Yu Suzukis most ambitious stretch goal is $10 million but I'm pretty sure the Kickstarter won't raise that.

Most Kickstarters go quiet at this point and Shenmue probably more so due to the limited reward tiers and niche of the game. Expect to see it start ramping up in the last week plus mini boosts due to updates to the Kickstarter which will probably hit early next week.

Once the new tiers come in it will pick up. I will pledge up to $500 for the replica mirrors. I also expect to see a boost around the end of the month once people get paid, a small boost on 3/7 as many backers are upping their pledge and then a mad rush towards the end.

My estimate is $6m.

They can't possibly think its going to reach 11 million...
Probably look into Paypal after the KS ends - doubt the end surge will get them past $8 million
$7.5m and I will be happy. Anything over that is a welcome bonus.
Agreed, the most fleshed out fighting system and Id be happy. From what I understand of the old games practise makes perfect - love to see that with proper VF moves.
Fair enough. I guess I'd understand it if it was an Indie developer, but it's not (is it?)
AFAIK Ys Net is an indie

They should add a tier for a PC port of Shenmue 1 and 2. Wouldn't even need to be HD versions, just straight console ports.

Bet that would get the money pouring in again :D

It probably wouldn't on PC, PSN, yes, not PC. nullDC and ISOs are freely available.

They dont have permission to do that - only Sega could do that

Do people really expect it to have a huge $1million+ surge towards the end? I personally can't even see this getting past $5million. I would assume that the vast majority of die hard fans who want this have already backed it, so can we really expect another $1million+ from people who are only semi interested in this?

There are some very tasty new rewards coming and yes, looking at trends of other games on KS I fully expect atleast a further $1m in the final week.
