Shenmue 3 on 360? TGS 2007

Your love of this game must be blinding you to the reality that this game is a cult classic with moderate appeal It would help sway a lot of people?, lol please this game is a major unknown to the mainstream, did nothing to help xbox or dreamcast sales but now if this list is real, its gonna help persuade those people who never played the game ( more than those that did play it ) to buy a console just to play it? Shenmue 3 might be the holy grail of games to the hardcore but most gamers couldn't give a damn.

The mainstream gamer knows of Shenmue. If you don't believe it helped Dreamcast sales you're mad, I know of 5 people who bought one for Shenmue. It's also (as mentioned) the most imported game in US history (Shenmue 2).

Whilst you're definitely right about it being a cult classic, however, to those who know about gaming and don't have an Xbox360 I believe a lot of those will go for Xbox360's because of Shenmue. I seriously think you underestimate the game or how influential it has been.

Those gamers in the know as you say, well compared to the vast majority of the mainstream console buyers, they are the hardcore. The people who buy consoles for yearly need for speed and fifa updates, will not suddenly wet themselves in anticipation for this game. For a game of limited sales from last gen that appeared on two consoles that had a small userbase, suddenly shenmue 3 explodes into a AAA must have title that will sell 360's?. You can not be serious, and your anecdotal evidence about your friends buying dreamcasts doesn't amount to much.

I don't know how you can say Shenmue has a small userbase... It was classed as a AAA when it was released too and whilst Shenmue II wasn't as well recieved as it's predecessor, it was still well recieved.

My point regarding friends is that if 5 people I know all bought Dreamcasts for one game, chances are it was a similar case the world over...

You say console buyers buy a console for the Fifa and Need For Speed updates, however surely the majority of which would buy an Xbox360 for it anyway? My point is only towards that Shenmue 3 would sell Xbox360's (as has been said in this thread anyway!) but your counter comment about gamers only leads me to believe they would do the same for the new EA brands.

Anyway, I'm not gonna argue on the topic, it's well known fact that Shenmue is a popular franchise, Shenmue 3 is one of the most requested sequels of ALL time, if that won't sell consoles, what will?

OK, it might sell a couple but what are we talking about here?, halo territory console sales?

Yeah I am exaggerating but then so are you, if every dc owner around the world had indeed seen 5 friends buy a dc just for the game, sega hardware would still be here today. The game was a commercial flop with a budget so big that with the mediocre sales sega lost money on the project.

And my point about gamers was that if the mainstream is the vast majority of those still waiting to go next gen and the hardcore have already joined, then how much of a system seller will a cult classic game be for those sizeable majority of gamers who horizions don't go beyond fifa and need for speed.

This game will sell, but mostly to those who have a 360 already....the hardcore.

No, I never said it would approach Halo sales, that would be ridiculous, however it will certainly shift units, that's undeniable. All those that have waited for Shenmue 3 could possibly get it at last, if they have to buy Xbox360's to do so, then a lot of them will.

I was merely using an example regarding my friends, I'm not saying everyone or even most had that, however I'm sure lots of people the world over did. The Dreamcast is a very well thought of console, a lot of gamers put it down as their favourite ever (me inclusive), it's a shame most games players only seemed to discover its brilliance after it died.
AS you said in regards to the EA sports buyers, they are undoubtedly the ones that hurt Sega most as the Dreamcast didn't get its range of games. Microsoft suffered a similar fate by not getting EA games online when other games were over Live.

IMO Shenmue is a cult game not really mainstream. It might have a slight impact on console sales, but won't be a system seller.

I'd probably say the gamers that would get it probably already have a 360 or were thinking about it and this just was the final reason. I very much doubt any westener would just walking past a games shop and see a copy of shenmue on display and think "I hope thats on my Wii/PS3... Oh its not well I guess I will have to get it on that xbox thing."

Might open up the market a bit in Japan though.

Edit: I'd go as far as saying the DC was a cult console IMO.

Both those articles have been around for quite a while Naffa unfortunately.

Shenmue is a cult classic with a relatively small but hardcore user base. Personally this is the game I want more than any other (apart from a FF7 remake of course!). :)

Yes, people who think Shenmue is a 'mainstream' games series with an open assessibility and views comparable to games like Final Fantasy and such, needs to get their heads out of the sand unfortunately - I too had the first two games (used to play the 70 man battle with counterattacks only for hours on end) and it's not hard to see how obscure and unknown the game series really are.

It's one of those cult classics where whoever likes it has to be very vocal about it - you could say it's like those guys who roared that Pulp Fiction should have got the oscar over Titanic.

I would agree in saying the past games arent main stream.

But they were fantastic, and anyone who played them usually loved them, So that covers anyone who bought the Dreamcast or Xbox version.

And it Will probably mean those people will buy the 360 version. I will be, And it would seem most people who have played the previous ones in this thread are too.

That said, I cant see it making people want the 360. BUT, I'm sure that it'll help, If you were looking at buying one, and you saw GOW, Lost Planet, Dead rising, Shemue 3(Having played the previous ones) I'm sure it'd help as a bargaining chip.

Fake, they didn't even get the platform right for the upcoming Sonic RPG.

Sega announcing a new Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5 and Skies of Arcadia game at TGS is nothing more than wishful thinking imo. It doesn't even have a source.

i thought shenmue was great but i was not sure about the secound installment?

but shenmue is a game i will always remember on dreamcast :)

p.s my favourite part on shenmue was when you had to get a job at the port on a forktruck , :D amazing

A rumor recently circulated containing a list of Sega's alleged line-up for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. The most striking detail in the post was that of Shenmue 3 coming out for the Xbox 360, but the bubble was pierced as the rumor was debunked.

James Walker of site Xbox 360 Rally later had the post taken down and retracted the earlier report. In a message posted in their site, he apologized to other blogs who picked the item up and promised that nothing of the sort will ever happen again.

"All those other sites who linked to this, all I can say to you guys is that I am sorry for this whole damn mess," writes Walker. "I assure you that this will NOT happen again. I have to say, I applaud you guys for being right on top of this."

Walker also explains in his message that the tip which sparked the buzz came from a fellow named Rob who has been consistently reliable for the past four years.

There has been no official word or response from Sega as of press time and news on the upcoming TGS has been scarce thus far. However, updates are expected to steadily flow in towards the coming weeks so keep it here for your fill of info.

I think Shenmue 3 will be announced at some point though. either multiplatform or on the Wii only. It has a huge cult following, Sega would make a mint if they made it.

I'd love it on the Wii. That's the kind of game the Controller is made for!

Maybe but I can't help feeling really good graphics are a big part of the Shenmue series to help get people immersed in the "real life" style of the game.

I know with Shemue 1 it was just as much fun taking a casual walk around and admiring the sights than doing any kind of missions.

The Wii can do good graphics though, look at Zelda. The Wii is more powerful than the Dreamcast and it worked on that.

Though a roaming world in HD would be good too :).
