Sherlock

Bit teed off at that ending as is severely limits the chance of another series. I really liked it as well!

Hopefully though some Sherlock-esque explanation will let the show live on to see another day.

Huh, what are you on about ?

The ending was left wide open.

Really liked it, back to its clever, self-satsfying self. Accent was quite wierd, but I guess they were portraying him as an odd genious type thing. Hopefully there is more to come :)

Near the end Sherlock and the "other guy" both say he has a Browing L9A1 when it's been obvious since the first episode that it's a SIG, I know the average joe wouldn't recognise this but it's a pretty stupid error to have isn't it.

To be fair they are very similiar - I only realised it wasn't a L9A1 when the camera angle changed to a behind view.

Oh and yeah what is with Ms accent switching between strong Irish and flat essex in the middle of a sentence and finishing up with something roughly prussian before switching to American.

Not to mention the chances of detonating a C4 rigged belt with a small caliber round pretty slim...

ITs good, and bad, the two leads are pretty good, they play the characters very well and its an ok setup, lots of it is very good. But the stories have been incredibly weak, really really really weak. The baddies have been truly horrific and Sherlock goes from frustratingly knowing and observant to one point in the first episode where he suddenly ignores something ridiculously obvious and continues to act like a moron.

The first was good up till that one point and the last 10-20mins were really crap. The second ep again had lots of good bits, but the ending was awful largely because the baddies are so bad, once they are uncovered it becomes a bit crap.

The little bits like the texting at the start of the first ep were also cringeworthy, its classic "55 year old white guy, how do I make this hip, I'll do some texting crap", it was completely unneccessary, stupid, and out of place.

With better stories it actually could have been a great series.

I agree its very up and down... I found myself switching off for 5 minutes at a time - its little short of a miracle tho that it didn't tank completely given the heights it has to scale to be any kind of sucess... with a little better writing it could be quite good.

I changed to ch1 yesterday quickly and Sherlock was on, decided to watch it while the break was on another channel.

It seemed like they were on about the Bruce parlington plans? Just with memory sticks lol. I just had to laugh

Moriarty was only revelaed because it is a bog standard TV writing device to do so. "Tad Daa! Aren't you all impressed it was the geek" They could easily have gone a dozen more epsiodes 2 or 3 involving Moriarty plots before revealing him but in true British style we need to blow our wad too early.

Not a bad series but it is Cumberwatch and Freeman that raise it from the crappy plots and lazy TV cliches.

I agree, it was a shame they revealed him, but i guess they were limited by only having 3 episodes to play with.

Someone was telling me they might make it a full series? Which would certainly be a good thing as i have enjoyed it, but would make Moriarty's revealing even more disappointing.

I took the accent to be another layer of mystery and secrecy about him, he doesn't like to give anything away, and knowing that Sherlock would be able to pick things up about him from an accent or whatever, he masks it with a strange mix of varying accents to throw him off.

Although they have revealed Moriarty, it doesn't mean that they've caught him.

After all, how do you see the start of the next series (assuming that they make one), Holmes and Watson, covered in rubble, being dug out, but where is Moriarty? He was right next to the explosion wasn't he? But no, no body is found, nor any trace of the two assistants that he had with the two rifles.

So what then, they know he is out there, they know his name, they know his face. But this is James Moriarty, a man with an intellect as vast as Holmes, we already know that he's masked his voice under a sea of accents, finding him again will not be easy, we may well get our Reichanbach Falls moment.

I don't think it is the last we will hear of Moriarty.

Just a shame that they had to bring watson into the reveal, if the stand-off had been only Holmes/Moriarty, they could have played that out as "did he really exist, or is he holmes imagination?" oh well.

Still, enjoyable show nonetheless, wish that the hidden messages on the science of deduction website had been less 'simple'.

I thought Moriarty sounded like the squeaky voiced criminal bloke off Police Academy.

Like some others here I thought it was OK but a bit too close to Doctor Who for comfort. And Holmes must have the worlds fastest iPhone and the best 3G speed ever.

The lead actor is quite good as Holmes, but would have been better as Doctor Who.

I liked it.
Even if Gemma Chan can't be in it again :(

I loved the reference to 'Jim'il'fix'it'
Dear Jim, I need to disappear...
Dear Jim, I need to

Brilliance. Some very well written bits, and some not so great reveals.

When I saw the ending my first thought was that Holmes fires at the explosives but nothing happens. Moriarty makes some comment about the explosives being fake and wanting to test how far Holmes is willing to go to stop him. As the two sniper still have their guns aimed at Holmes and Watson, Moriarty is allowed to escape and he let's them both survive as Moriarty needs someone to compete against.

On the second point about revealing Moriarty too soon. We only have that characters word for it that he actually is Moriarty. He could be another of Moriarty's minions that had been sent by the real Moriarty to distract Holmes from some other plan/scheme.

Either way I hope they do make another series as I quite enjoyed it :)

It was so much like Doctor Who that I feel like I can't really criticise it on account of how I watch and enjoy the latter, but at the same time, it did so little to try and be its own program. I didn't even know Moffat et al were involved when I started noticing the similarities, and it didn't surprise me when I found out.

Sherlock's know-it-all, idiot-helping-exposition and general "WOO I'M ECCENTRIC" attitude was pure Doctor. Likewise Watson acted almost exactly like a companion through most of it. Moriarty was the Master, etc, etc. I liked it, and I will probably still watch it, but it was just a little bit too annoyingly unoriginal.

And yeah, three episodes really hurt its attempt to build Moriarty up. As has been said, I'd have just left him unknown throughout.

You know, all the comparing Sherlock to Dr Who, including the reference to The Master and Moriarty, makes me chuckle as it has been said many times by the production team behind dr who, that sherlock holmes has always been an influence, and yes, the master was meant to be the moriarty of the show. So, hardly a surprise.

And of course, anything made by Moffat and Gatiss is going to be compared to current dr who.

First thing i thought when people started mentioning how it's so like Doctor Who, when in fact Doctor Who, especially the revival, is more like Sherlock Holmes.. just with a sci fi twist.

Glad it's coming back, also agree that the explosives will probably be fake or prove to be inert for some reason. There will probably be some flashback scene or something at the start of the next episode when it returns that explains it all, time skip and all.
