what an absolute dog of a car, no redeeming features at all, did you test this weeks combo before posting Mr. F?

EDIT: a little faster but still awful, I think it's a waste of the mighty Laguna Seca.

From 1st post

New to this season is a new way of selecting a combo, one user from each event can choose from a random number for car and track (see rule for number limit) to make the combos so random and to make sure not everyone goes for pure power and simple tracks so it makes the choices for each combo more simple for each user.

Yes but did you TEST it first?

No because i did not have time to since i forgot about it so i just went with random numbers and this combo came up, anyway tbh i have just done a run on this combo and it's really fun when on the limit since there is not much room for error if you do wide you going into the gravel.

Sorry no because there is only one round left after this weeks combo so there is not much point.

And there we are, the last of the Shift 2 time trials. I'll miss it, it's been great fun.

Congratulations to Mr.Fantastic for winning the Championship!

Thanks to him for setting the whole thing up, running and updating it, and for his help with settings and tips and tricks on how to improve laptimes.

Thanks to anihcniedam, Grudas, and,... everyone else that took part and quit early :p

See you guys in F1 2011 for more time trials hopefully! :)

Thank you to every one who took part during the last 10 weeks, this was the only time trial i will be doing for shift 2 because of the lack of people who took part and because i don't want to spend any more time on the game.

Congratulations to Mr. F you driving has been fantastic.

The time trials have been fun and I've started to pick up the tuning side of things.

Thanks to everyone who took part, just a shame we ended on this combo...

I think F1 2011 will be my next driving purchase.

well one competition like that is still going on my site so if any of you are interested join in! the rules are a bit "weaker" but w/e its all about having fun

no autolog required so yeah thats pretty much the only change

just letting you know :)

Dear Shift2 Aces,

Could you kindly answer two questions about this game:

1. Do you have FF fighting back when returning wheel into neutral position after correcting oversteer or straightening just after hairpin? Taking two hairpins in succession @ Ebisu is very hard because the wheel (instead of spinning back quickly by itself) fights me when I straighten it and I lose LOADS of time and the racing line as well.

Secondly, how do you take hairpins? I dont think I've got a green tick on a single hairpin in the game :(

I had my FF pretty low tbh, just enough to feel it but not strong enough to make the car vibrate too hard because it does indeed make you lose time as it's harder to control. I'd definitely reduce it a lot if I were you. There's tons of settings you might want to mess with, but it's been ages since I played it, I can't really remember. Steering lock is another one to consider tweaking.

As far as hairpins, they were always something I struggled with, but it comes down to lots of practise really. One thing that made a massive improvement for me was using the width of the track, moving out closer to the kerb as you approach the turn in of the hairpin. If you're taking a right hand hairpin for instance, move further left of the racing line slightly, it'll help you turn in smoother without going wide. Also, try and do all your braking and downshifting before turning, then get back on the throttle giving it some light power to keep the car from spinning out. Sometimes 2nd gear works best, sometimes 1st gear. Most of the time Ist gear worked better for me. Gauging the braking distance prior to the hairpin is important, and changing gears down too fast can sometimes not slow the car down fast enough and make you overshoot or spin, so it's not always a good idea to shift down too quickly and too close to the turn in. Find yourself a marker of some sort such as a 100 or 50 metre marker to use as a guide to start braking and shifting down. You'll soon know where the optimum place is for starting to brake, after which you can then start pushing your braking distances a bit if you're looking to beat times.

Here's a video of mine with lots of turns and a couple of hairpins.

Awesome driving, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I was aware of taking hairpins as wide as possible, but I've never used 1st gear for anything but moving off the starting grid- I will try it tomorrow for hairpins, thanks for the tip!

Reducing force feedback - I really wish there were separate settings for rumble strips effects because they REALLy mess up steering wheel straightening... but there is only ONE setting for FF strength in the options, so I cant disable/reduce just some of its effects.

And generally, I'm ok with FF in Shift2, but wheel straightening makes drifting/quick full lock steering very hard- not like in Live For SPeed where you step on the gas and the steering wheel just WANTS to unwind to neutral position, here you have to really fight it and it ruins quick steering. Playing with little to no FF is also bad... I'll have another go at it tomorrow.

Just looked at your video again and I can see that you did not have full steering animation activated in game- ie in game ands only turned the steering wheel by about 30 deg, where as full 900 degree animation is possible in Shift2.

This is how steering animation looks in my game:

I think I'm also close to sorting out FF problem I've talked about above. I'll post a screenie of my settings once I am 100% satisfied, but the problem is nearly solved, just need to fine tune a bit. I still have good FF, but when the wheel should unwind by itself there is no longer resistance so split second 200+ degree oversteer correction is now possible for me at long last :)

I've never used the full 900 degrees on my wheel, I have it set to around 270. If yours is set to 900, that's probably why you're struggling to get the wheel back to base quick enough. :p

I'm using 540- realistic, accurate and REALLY GOOD FUN NOW :D Yep, the steering is super quick now, split second adjustments like in this vid (0:50 onwards) are easy and natural now with proper FF still in place (without it precision would disappear):

Oh, my wheel settings:

I have placed in second place for the first time EVER at Ebisu after just a couple of tries with this setup, the game overall has transformed to the much better:)

Nice one! So was it a case of reducing your FF then?

Yep, really happy with it! :)

I think the biggest factor was removing the tick from "Allow Game To Adjust Settings" - this has all but removed the resistance form the wheel "unwinding back" when correcting oversteer and such(the FF resistance is still very much in place when it should be of course, so you cant -just like in real life -do a split second 200 degree steering wheel turn when the car is fully balanced before the turn).
