Shifting IDE data to SATA.

At the moment i'm still running an 80gb IDE and a 160gb IDE HDDs. About to order Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - OEM and Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM. The 74gb for games etc and the 500gb pretty much for storage.

However, i have a good 200gb of data on my IDEs that i need, but i read in another post that booting 2 SATAs and setting up RAID wipes the drives (I have never set up RAID or SATAs before). I would like to know the best way to get my data across.

The plan at the moment is plug in the 2 SATAs, install Windows on the 74gb and set them up as RAID etc, plug in my 2 IDES as slaves and just drag and drop the required data, but i would like a more experienced opinion.

After transfering the data will probably scrap the IDEs as i most likely don't have enough room in my case and also because newer mobos have only one IDE port and that would be for optical drives so i want to be SATA only.

Also, reading up on it, people on the board seem to have a lot of problems with SATA drives corupting or whatever and having to back them up a lot. I've never had this problem with my IDEs. Is it experienced a lot more with SATA?

Thanks. I have only formatted and partioned the 80gb IDE i currently own, and that was for installing Windows. Presumably, i will have to format and create a partition on the Raptor aswell when i install Windows for the first time? Also, where is the Disk Management application located? I can only find Device Manager atm.
