Shin Guards - Ankle Protection

A new guy to our 5-aside footy night with work mates is an ankle breaker. He injured 3 guys of the opposing team (me included) last night. Speaking to him about it isn't working he doesn't listen to anything and thinks he is amazing when he is the worst player there (he doesn't follow any of the rules). Short of excluding him from 5's which is what is going to happen if he continues like this over the next few weeks. The only solution I have atm is either not to play or buy some protection.

I hate shin pads as they don't feel natural. What I hate even more is ones that offer ankle protection as they really restrict movement. I would rather have them though than have this guy go through and ruin me.

So what's the best shin pads with ankle protection.

This guy also likes to tackle from behind, etc so you just don't know when your going to get hit so it's not as if you can just pass it when he gets near you.

You're not a professional footballer, you can choose who you play with and you don't need to unnecessarily risk injury, get rid of the ****.

Shinguards/ankle protection will do nothing if he goes through your ankle. Outside of saving you from some maybe cuts from studs or whatever they aren't going to stop your ankle breaking and if this guy is being that dangerous you just shouldn't play with him. Injuring three people, being talked to about it and refusing to rethink how he plays made the decision for him.

If he does the same next week he will be out for sure.

But I don't want to take that chance next week that he hasn't taken on our feedback. He didn't listen to a single thing we told him this week.

Like that bige huge D is for keepers only. He also was wearing studs on astro turf.

Snap him back???

In all seriousness get rid of him, I used play 6- aside and a team had a player like this in and he broke a guys leg and ankle at the same time it was horrible to see, wouldnt wish it on anyone

This^

He would get laid out after the first tackle where I play :D

Sounds like a complete **** to me.

If he isn't interested in playing (kicking isn't playing), get rid of him.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a kick now and again mind, but he just sounds like a thug.

Is it proper hard astroturf or is it the new softer stuff? Do you mean blades or actual studs because I wear blades on a 3G pitch.

I wear Nike shin guards with the ankle protection but as mentioned before they only save your ankles from cuts really.

Being an enforcer, I'd likely take him out.

if anybody was to wear shine guards when me and my friends play 5 aside it would be like wearing a crosshair lol. shine guards are only for 11 aside games and even at that id only wear very small ones.

the best way to sort out the problem is t kick him harder than he kicks you lol

Yeah there's something seriously wrong if you have to wear shinnies/ankle guards to play with mates/work guys. If he's intent on breaking you, he will, no protection is really going to help. Give him a kick when he gets the ball.

I'm not an expert on astro turf it's the stuff with the black rubber that sticks to your socks, etc. Actual studs.

The guy who organises the game has had quite a few complaints and he's spoken with him. Basically this week is his last chance before he's kicked out.

I don't think I could intentionally go through someone but if he does it again I'll need to re-think that one, could be the only way he will realise it's not acceptable.

Yeah, sounds like 3G and he shouldn't be wearing actual studs, they're banned from 3G pitches because they tear it up.

Let us know if the guy learns his lesson.

There are three ways of dealing with this.

1. Refuse to play if he is going to be (probably the best option)
2. Ban him from playing (if you have the decision as to who plays)
3. Put him out of the game (probably most satisfying)

1. seems to be your option right now from reading the thread.

I've never understood people not wearing shin pads for 5 aside accidents happen and a shin pad can prevent a broken leg!
