Shin Guards - Ankle Protection

I had a pretty horrendous time when I broke my tibia when I was 22 (53 now, where does the time go?) I ended up having the break re-set without anaesthetic by some sadist at the hospital after a slip on my crutches. I had to place my leg over some sort of medieval implement whilst the sadist pulled down on my foot. I could actually feel the bone grind back into place, not something to forget in a hurry. Back on topic, either kick him six feet up in the air or ban him, simple really. ;)

We have a similar guy who doesn't understand the no slide tackle rule of indoor football. He just gets smashed in 50/50's.

So much this.

Faced with a guy who had no self control and doesn't understand you all have to work the next day?

Smash him out the park every chance.

On the odd occasions that I play 5 a side I tape my ankles, as I have a weak ankle from a serious injury a few years back.

That said if someone was tackling like this I would just get rid of him.

Made me a little sick whilst eating my lunch, cheers :p

back on topic tho - can anyone recommend some?
Haven't worn any for years but took a couple of knock the other night (accident with guy in my team both trying to slide and catch the ball from tricking over the line!)
anyone use separate ankle protection? no idea what's best and there was only one set that looked like the good old ones I used to wear!

I have a pair of Nike Tiempo Park Shield and they have some ankle protection. Less than £10 in most sports places too.

I've not used ankle shinpads as they seem to be kind of restrictive. However what I do for 11-a-side games is to use bandage wraps which I wrap around my ankles and lower to give me some padding? It still hurts if I get kicked there but it lessens the blow going straight onto the bone.

I just use some Nike Tiempo ones with velcro straps and I tape them to keep it in place.

The new ones are quite expensive (slip in ones) compared to the strapped ones. Maybe they're easier to stay on your legs?

The velcro strap ones I use are always sliding down as the calf (at least mine) is larger than my lower leg so naturally it will slip to the narrower part.

Either way people still tape them up so I guess it's your choice.
