They should have ordered them from Italy - I believe that their tanks work great in reverse

There seem to be any number of problems with this order - which is doubtless being (un)fulfilled by Capitalism and greed - see HERE and HERE.

So my grandfather told me after being in Royal Tank Regiment against the Italians in North Africa.. "3 forward gears and 5 reverse" was another popular joke too...

This is the replacement for the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle. It appears to be going the way of the US Bradley AFV = modified to meet so many conflicting requirements that it ended up meeting none of them.

Let us hope that it doesn't cost the same kind of insane money that the Bradley program managed to...

Why the MoD couldn’t just buy the latest German Marder or Israeli Merkava is beyond me.

Oh wait, it’s the old “not invented here” mentality that created the SA80.

tanks are unable to travel faster than half the intended top speed of 40mph, and they are so loud that soldiers have had to wear ear defenders and undergo ear tests afterwards. They are also unable to reverse over objects 20cm high.

How can that be in this day and age?

Firstly it's not a tank, secondly, what does this have to do with capitalism and greed? Are communists immune from engineering blunders or something?

Firstly it's not a tank

Was wondering how long until someone pointed it out heh.

We are perfectly capable of designing and building our own armoured fighting vehicles I don't know why we don't or at least properly co-work on a project so we get a decent result.

The current situation is clearly one of not fit for purpose and requires radical action.

The entire programme was sabotaged from the moment they chose General Dynamics to bodge something together rather than going with BAE and the CV90 family of vehicles.
Ahh BAE, the pinnacle of on-time, to quality projects :p
