Shockingly bad talktalk internet

I had absolutely no idea there was so much to it. Shows how often I venture into 'Networks & Internet Connectivity' :p

In there somewhere, probably. IIRC there's a button at the bottom that spawns a popup window.

This what you meant?

This what you meant?

yes.

i see your downstream lin attn is quite high, as in you either have a long line or interference
also are you on a fixed 1meg profile ?

if you arent i see your SNR is at 11.3, with the DGteam Firmware i could get that 11.3 down to 6db for you and it would increese your speed output but its risky and it doesnt work for everyone its all down to how stable your line is.

here is a picture showing you my current line stats :)
how do you like my SNR :D

as you can see, if you compaire your stats to my LLU Adsl2+ stats.
but im pritty sure with your SNR reduced you will gain quite a bit extra speed.

What am I risking though? It used to work fine, why would it not work now?

its risky as in you might loose connection more or it might make you connection more unstable, but its worth a try if it becomes unstable just revert back to it was as its all done in software not a hardware level ;)

You say you have no extensions, but have you tried plugging filter into test socket, behind master socket face plate? Top picture on this page.

Also try another filter to rule out the current one being defective. And if TalkTalk sent you a free router, try that instead of the DGN2000?

Basically you need to try different devices your end to rule out failing equipment. If happy your gear is working fine then you'll have to get TalkTalk to investigate problem, and they may call out BT to look into the issue.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Finally talktalk have been in contact and finally I was talking to somebody who knew what they were talking about, the girl wasn't that helpful but did know exactly what the problem was, thought I'd post it here for anyone else who might suffer the same problem.

You can see from photos what I have done, when plugged into the outside (with cover on) of the socket its slow.

When plugged into the inside, it works great - wollahh :D

Just need a new cover now and I'm away :p

LOL

you have basicly plugged your router/modem directly into your master sockets, test socket.

basicly you have by passed your ring wire and all your external phone cableing. :)
yes it works for most people, but thats only if you have crap internal wireing. like you have just noticed :)

well done lol though its something i would have tryed anyway if i had the same issues.
what you need is a BT iplate. :)

it's got ... everything to do with the length and quality of ... any extension wiring you have

No extensions, router is plugged in directly

You realise those wires going into the faceplate are extensions? The very things I suggested were the cause of your problem over a week ago?

No you don't. If you're not using those extensions you can safely disconnect them and probably go back to using the faceplate you have.

How is knowing exactly what the problem is - unhelpful ?

It was suggested earlier that you try the master socket to eliminate poor wiring at your end.

The Talktalk forum is a very helpful, and quick place, to sort out issues.

I had my SNR reduced to 6db, via the forum, in under 24hours of posting there.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15225 kbps 1015 kbps
Line Attenuation 27 db 6.5 db
Noise Margin 6 db 6 db

Would a filtered faceplate be a good option? If able to follow instructions about wiring up extensions.

Can have it so ADSL signal doesn't go to extension sockets, so no need for a filter on them. And it looks neater at master socket.

I had no idea the wires were set up like that behind it, I just assumed it was plugged directory in because thats all I could see - I thought by extensions you meant, well, extensions - things that make the wire longer :D

Unhelpful was perhaps the wrong word, rude is probably a better way of putting it.
