Spent an age putting my system together inly to get to the BIOS and the machine shuts down after 10s. (its also not picking up the HDD but that can wait.)
I could keep the system alive long enough to see the processor was at 85deg. I took the heat sink off and to my amazement it had not even touched the artic silver on the processor.
Close examination (as you can see from the pictures) shows that the mounting screws are not pushing the brackets down. they fit flush without the screws but once the screws go in they raise the metal high enough so there can never be a flush connection to the processor.
The screws go through a plate then into the heat sink, the holes in the heat sink dont have a thread, i assume this is why the screws are not pulling the bracket flush.
Anyhoos, have a look a the picture, Phil, I will call you in the morning. 2 days without a PC, Im going insane
The cooler is this model Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 (Socket LGA1366)
