Shooting a model by waterfall

Hmmm, I can see that the flash will be useful to control the lighting on the model. But surely if she is lit by the same ambient light as the waterfall then she will be just as exposed as the waterfall by the long exposure (and therefore subject to blur).

The flash will 'fill in' and help with making the model stand out but how will it freeze her ?

The only way that the freezing effect of the flash will come into play and be useful is if you expose the background to say -3 or -4 stops and use the flash to bring out the model.

Hmm, you do seem to have a point there.

I must have placed the model in an area in shadow, the waterfalls I've used did have quite dappled lighting and were more vertical than the shot in this thread.

So now I think, shoot it raw, fill in flash for the model and expose background down a few stops to minimise blur in model but produce it in the water and then convert the raw twice, 1 for model and the other for background and blend them together in PS.
