Shoplifting...

When I was at uni I went to a nearby shop for some hangover food, grabbed a bag of crisps and a few other things and paid for them. As I turned to leave I noticed a big pile of the same bags of crisps with a buy one get one free sign so I said to the guy at the counter "I'm just going to grab this other bag since it's 2 for 1." He said it was too late because I had already paid for it. I pulled out by best WTF face. We exhanged a few more words before I just walked out with both bags. I suppose some shop assistants like to go on power trips.

Why do the £19.99 DVD players in ASDA even have security tags? I've been walking through the exit after purchasing one and the alarms go off.

The alarms are always going off, so I'm getting ready to ignore it, then realist there is a DVD player, not in a bag or anything, in my right hand. "****, now that dude walking the other way that I've never seen before and never will again thinks I'm a chav." Receipt shown to the guy at the entrance, I go on my way.

Could be worse - I got a bottle of whiskey from asda around xmas and they forgot to take the security tag off at the counter and I did not realise at the time. The security barrier at the doors did not go off either and it was not until I got back home that this whiskey still had the original tag on it lol

I managed to buy a pack of razor blades with the plastic box still around them. Damn those boxes are hard to remove.

I've also found 10 un-used sticky back security tags before. Which immediately went underneath the front cross-bar of 10 trolleys.

She most likely be nicked. She could always get a PND, but it depends if she has a record or not and admits to the offence to police on the spot.

But yeah, if you haven't already done so, go home.

Police won't do anything. If she's unlucky she'll be taken down to police station - otherwise they'll have a quick word and let her go if she doesn't have a record. Pathetic policing system for the win!

It's fun to make stuff up, isn't it? :)

I got stopped at the local tesco's, bought a knife and the dumb ass checkout person didnt take the tag off. The store is above the carpark, so you go through one set of detectors at the top and another at the bottom. Only the bottom ones went off. I felt a right dick with all the people staring at me.

Like a doofus-ski? :D

I would say your lack of understanding of how it actually works for the lose is perhaps a better description.

If she has stolen an item and the shop wishes to press charges then she will be arrested.

So after 2 and a bit hours i decided to call up thames valley police to track her down, the guy on the phone told me she wasn't taken to the police station and that she was still at the store with the police. so i decided to wait a bit longer and 10 mins later my friend called me to say they've let her go.

she got into my car, said she didn't know why she did it and burst into tears. the police gave her a fine of £80 and said she was banned from going into the store again.

don't know why it took 2.5hrs.. but i trust she won't be doing that again.. she was lucky the police only gave her a £80 fine.

Mate of mine used to work for Tesco Security.

Speaking to him one day and as we are chatting the alarm goes off at the door, a big guy is walking out with a big TV.

"you gonna get that?"
"nah, it's a big TV he won't of tried to steal it..."

:o

Shops discretion really!

Also, if he hated where he worked, he could just think "**** it" and just let them going knowing the shops going to lose out ;)

Sounds like she's beating herself up over it. Make her feel better by playing it down like it's not such a big deal. It's a very small crime in the grand scheme of things, plenty of people have done much worse and got away with it.

yeah i told her that we all make mistakes, as long as we learn from our mistakes and know not to do it again then theres no need to dwell on it. i took her for ice cream afterwards then dropped her off home :) i didn't ask her many questions as i know how it feels when you've done something wrong and you just want to bury your head in shame... glad i waited for her though as i can't imagine how bad she would have felt if she found out i had left her to get home by herself

Small crimes lead to bigger crimes, bloody serves her right and imho she got off lightly, perhaps she has learnt her lesson and will grow up and act responsibly and with repsect for others property.....somehowe i doubt it though.
