Shoplifting...

Why isn't it a mistake? Don't you think her decision to do was a mistake?

Do you think that Ian Huntley or Jon Venables or Myra Hindley or Fred West just made a mistake?
Bless 'em, I made the mistake of seeing them as muderers who knew exactly what they were doing.
Thanks for putting me straight! no one is a bad 'un, they just made a mistake eh?

Oh yeah, shoplifting is comparable to torturous murderers, thanks I'll try not to forget that next time.

A mistake is a mistake?
Stop trying to justify crime by insinuating it is just a mistake!
If we follow your thinking, the prisons will be empty and criminals will be sent home after a cosy chat over tea and biscuits to discuss where exactly they made an inconvenient lifestyle choice decision...

she 'had' to get some new clothes for a job interview this Thursday.

Well I guess one positive she could take from this is during the interview when they ask her

"Tell us about a situation when you were under a lot of pressure and how you dealt with it"

"Well this one time I was walking out of a shop and the alarms went off..."

We get it in work quite often, personally I find it hilarious that peopel will actually steal a bar of chocolate that costs all of 50p.

I've lost count of the amount of times that I've walked out of a shop only for the alarm to go off, there by no one around (security staff), so I stand there swinging the bag between the detectors waiting, and some security guard shouts from a distance "it's okay".

Really odd, they surely didn't have a clue whether or not I'd actually paid.

Ifyou'd nicked something would you stand around waiting for security?

My sarcasm detector might be off here, but have you never done something in your life that, although deliberate at the time, was a mistake in hindsight?

People make bad choices, that's life. If you make a bad choice and then see it as a mistake afterwards then that's a good thing. Would it actually be better if they didn't see it as a mistake?

Would you be saying that if she walked through your front door and picked up your TV?

What is it you want me to say, that she should be cast out of society, have no friends, never be able to do anything and labled as a thief and nothing but a thief for life?

If someone does a big wrong to me I'm not going to defend them or wish them well, of course I'm not, but that doesn't mean I don't believe people can make bad choices, but realise they were bad and recover from them!

If, in a years time, she hasn't stolen anything else, then sure, we can chalk it down to a blip and say she simply made a mistake.

This forum amazes me. One minute we have a crap justice system and we are too light on criminals, the next its all 'there there, never mind, poor girl' when she gets caught stealing?

I wonder what would have happened had she not been caught...

It is a fact, look it up.

There are loads of facts out there about reoffending, and also about how criminals start on petty crimes and work their way up - its FACT

:D

You're funny.

Gief links to all your "facts" about 100% reoffending regardless of the crime please.

It amazes me when people suggest that the next stop for her is major crime and that she should be disowned as a friend!

Giving up on people when they need help is not the way to go.

I walked out of Tesco in Thailand with a tv once, I was busy interneting on my phone at the till and we all forgot I needed to pay for the massive tv the other items were sitting on. Once I got to the car park I realised and went back in and paid for it.

Some good stories in this thread. My mate worked at dixons and told me a scam is mate or ex-colleague played. Person A would ring up and reserve a washing machine or microwave. Shop assistant would go into the back and stuff it with games and iPods and then label it under his mates name. Person A would come in and buy the item, go home, unpack the stuffed items wait a few hours and then bring the washing machine or microwave back and get a full refund! Don't know how often it happened but quite a clever one!

No - there is nothing "clever" about it at all.
It is out and out theft.
There is never anything clever about theft be it from a friend, your place of work or some random victim.

You sound as if you are in full admiration for this thief - that is just sad.
