The sequel, Short Circuit 2, premiered in 1988. There was a script for a possible third movie written in 1989 and rewritten in 1990, but it was found unsatisfactory by the producers, and the project was subsequently scrapped.

In April 2008, Variety reported that Dimension Films had acquired the rights to remake the original film.[4] Dan Milano has been hired to write the script, and David Foster will produce. Speaking to Variety, Foster said that the robot's visual look won't change. On October 27, 2009, it was announced that Steve Carr will direct the remake and the film's plot will involve a boy from a broken family befriending the Number 5 robot
I sort of felt guttered that they cancelled a third movie and now feel shocked they they want to remake it and subsequently making it a kids film. probably something also on imdb

not happy

Sounds rubbish.

Are we really that short of ideas that we need to remake every film known to man?

I wonder when Transformers will get a re-make.

Has anyone watched the original recently?

Loads of blatant sexual references that I never noticed as a child :p

Also, awesome line from a bad robot in a smoke cloud..

"visibility : 10 feet... 5 feet... no feet."

Maaann... I sort of think, well, just because it's in existence doesn't mean it has to have any effect on me. But on the other hand, the original Short Circuit was one of my child hood memories and people destorying said memory isn't very nice. :(

I'd prefer loads of mediocre original films, to poor/mediocre remakes of great films. :o

I wish there was a serial killer in Hollywood who hunted down producers who decide to do remakes.

At least then it would take balls to do a remake, cause you'd never know if you'd end up dissolving in a vat of acid.

“I am sporting a tremendous woody”

Why can't they just leave the orignal alone.

This film needs no remake. it needs a re-release.

If they want to make a sequal to show what Johnny 5 is up to after 20 ... I'm old... 20 years later then fine.

But the original needs no changes
Agreed, I'd love to see him staring at the TV watching Wall:e :p

I've got a copy of the original somewhere which came free in a paper. Going to look for those references :D

Why is it all films these days revolve around some Kids doing some crap with something!

Ok not all films but you get what I mean...
