Short term insurance?

Long and short of it is that my insurance renewal is due on the 6th, but I'm hoping to get another car shortly. I don't want to renew for another year as:

a) I won't have the car much longer and
b) I'm doubt my current insurer will give the most competetive quote on the car I'm planning to get.

Is there any way I can get around this, buying, say a month or two's insurance? I'm guessing if I renew and cancel my current policy there may be some sort of penalty....

I'd rather not be without wheels as it's a massive inconvenience :(

Advice appreciate - cheers!

I had a look at doing this, in the end I just went for year insurance. They will give a refund for unused months minus some fees.
All these month insurance worked out at over 100 notes for one month. It just wasn't economical at all.

Yep, I did the same. 28 days cover was about £200 through the 'specialists' 12 months was only £400 through my current insurance company.

Just checked and it's approaching 200 notes for 28 days! I think I'll just renew and cancel as appropriate. I'll read through my current policy docs when I get home to see if there's any nasty surprises :)

eCar may have been expensive short term but they beat my renewal quote by over £200 so I'm going to just get a policy with them and move it over when I get the new car. They gave me the cheapest fully comp quote on the car I'm intending to get anyhow so makes it nice and easy. :D

Cheers
