Other than the tv advertised hugely expensive loans (only smallish value anyway)

I've agreed to buy something this weekend but have just discovered that some money i was relying on is now being held back till Monday.

It involves traveling quite a way and i've accordingly booked a hotel for the Saturday to break up the journey.

As such i'm looking to borrow around two grand for a few days from somewhere and don't really know anyone i could ask. Its also too short notice to apply for a credit card i imagine that would arrive in time.

I've only got a £250 overdraft at the moment and they said i wouldn't be able to increase it by such a large amount.

Anyone have any ideas?

Pawnbroking?

Decent rates as it's secured and plenty of places in the town you can do it. Naturally need something of value to Pawn short term though.

Yeah i'll certainly look into that but if i'm able to borrow the money at a not too extortionate rate i'd prefer it as i'm not sure when else i'd be able to make the trip.

if your getting the money back on monday can you not look at one of these places like wonga(dot)com for a short term loan

Can only take £400 on your first loan, they're quite costly for large amounts too.

Was going to say this as well, being a first time customer, nearly all the short term loan companies will only offer a small amount for your first loan.

This is the genuine reason to get one of them Wonga loans... Ill guess it will cost you 25-30 quid or something...and be within your account within 10 minutes. SLIDERSSSSSSSSS.

You'll not get £2k from most (any?) of those short-term loan places, especially as a new customer with no repayment history.

I'd look into delaying your payment until you have the money on Monday, even if it means cancelling your plans and the hotel you've booked.

There have been cases recently of mortgage lenders actively avoiding people with 'payday' type loans. You'd be much better getting a proper bank loan and paying it back early, will probably be cheaper as well.

Otherwise there's a high chance the hotel will allow you to push the booking back to another weekend without a fine.

How about looking for a normal loan, with no early repayment fees?

Zopa and many others do this.

(oops misread the post above, someones already mentioned)

Asking your bank for a short term loan should be the quickest and safest route.

Check the early repayment penalties, but you can often apply entirely in your online banking for a personal loan and have the money sent over within a few minutes.

It's almost scary how quick you can have the cash!
