Shortage of Corn Flour

checking .. it's gone up 3kg bought nov last year £5 is now £13

otoh was surprised to see Aldi seem to have held turkey prices since last year

I'm going to admit, we bought a box we found in a post office, of all places, then the Mrs went into Morrisons and bought the last 4 boxes they have.

I use cornflour quite a bit in cooking.

I'm saving one of those for Christmas as I'm cooking Christmas dinner this year.

people use cornflour to thicken sauce for mac'n'cheese or chocolate sauce for puddings. ....

At £13 a box, wouldn't it be more cost effective to buy gravy premade at M&S?
you need to think big - economies of scale purchasing a years supply ... yes you've got to put the cash in, but the expense is offset, as you don't need a prime membership as you spend >£20.
At the moment with food costs, for non-perishables stock-piling is a good plan.

Meh. It probably takes me a year to get through 200g box.
I think I'll be able to sleep tonight despite this upmost shocking news.

In Tesco Amersham last week they had absolutely no onions. This week they still didn’t have any onions and no bananas, had plenty of eggs though. I’ve never seen it before where they didn’t have the staples

There's a fruit store on our street
It's run by a Greek.
And he keeps good things to eat
But you should hear him speak!
When you ask him anything, he never answers "no".
He just "yes"es you to death, and as he takes your dough
He tells you
"Yes, we have no bananas
We have-a no bananas today.
We've string beans, and onions
Cabbageses, and scallions,
And all sorts of fruit and say
We have an old fashioned to-mah-to
A Long Island po-tah-to
But yes, we have no bananas.
We have no bananas today."

tesco a joke anyway. whats the shelf life on cornflour? must be years?

what they mean is there's 100x more profit in selling a single use "packet of sauce" that's 99% cornflour anyway

singe use packet from companies that claim to be going green getting rid of plastic etc....
