Shortage of Corn Flour

What I imagine has happened (especially with it being Tesco) is that they're existing supplier wouldn't cut their cost so Tesco have binned them off thinking they could get it cheaper somewhere else and now can't.

Also after exploring making it themselves for 1/2 the price and then adding £0.90 to the price once they've gone out of business.

Lucky I buy all my corn flower from those not interested in destroying the whole High St.

tesco a joke anyway. whats the shelf life on cornflour? must be years?

what they mean is there's 100x more profit in selling a single use "packet of sauce" that's 99% cornflour anyway

singe use packet from companies that claim to be going green getting rid of plastic etc....
convenience products - pasta sauces/curry sauces/custard/bechemel are in response to people either not knowing how to cook/laziness, or maybe because of lack of time with two wage households ...
most are watching lots of netflix etc. though so I think the former

Don't know if cornflour is a Ukraine thing, but Aldi stopped selling bread flour and suet, both of which we purchased.

checking .. it's gone up 3kg bought nov last year £5 is now £13

otoh was surprised to see Aldi seem to have held turkey prices since last year

We pay £7 atm for 3kg, but that was about 4-5 a couple months back.

??? cornflour £1.75 at sainsburys. Where the **** is it £13 a box? (Admittedly its listed as cornflour but its cornstarch)

Probably not a 3kg box at Sainbury, is it?

Yeah it isnt, .5kg boxes. I think i kind of blindly ignored the weight part of the comment that Jpaul posted. Having said that if its £13 per 3kg atm its cheaper to buy .5kg boxes from sainsburys lol

Honestly that's often the case, restaurants sometimes pay a little more because you can order something at 2AM and get it delivered at 8AM. Or if you need 50kg of peeled potatoes etc. that's no problem.

For example we pay £3 kilo for chicken wings, we could go to Asda and get them for £2.03 for 1.1kg. But they're smaller, lower quality and we can't go and get 100kg of them guaranteed if we need that much.

Yeah i can appreicate the chef life a little, I used to live with the head chef many years ago and he used to be up until 2am most nights sorting out his orders.

Yes the 0.5kg cornflour would be cheaper at JS now than amazon wholefood earth/£13, who -had- taken a lot of my business lentils/quinoa/pudding-rice/salt.

wholefoods earth direct have 3kg@£8 min postage £25, but w/o prime I bulk up to £20 anyway

conclusion - looks like amazon have decided not to warehouse wholefood earth stuff anymore, and are passing on their postage costs

with inflation now, bulk purchasing is the way to go - does strike me this could be something to do with the neighbours to overcome 'free' postage thresholds ..
25Kg of cornflour circa £50, so that 50% cheaper than JS ... if I was on facebook or something
