** SHORTAGE ON HIGH WATTAGE PSU's PERFECT FOR MINING (BITCOIN): NOT AT OcUK THOUGH!! **

A machine with 4x 290's in it can process nearly 2 Lightcoins today, at current pricing that is $80 a day.

My mate who is doing this has his entire garage filled with such rigs with HD 7970's, HD 7990's and R9 290's, he has made over £100,000 from it even with electric cost incorporated and continuing to do so, his profit is down due to difficulty levels but he is still making a considerable profit, so he strongly disagrees with you. :)

So whats you're mates address :D

I've made 15e the past week (after leccy costs) from mining litecoin, all with a pathetic 7770.

Better than nothing :)

Many people think litecoins real value is 1/4 of a bitcoin so it may increase substantially still.

Gibbo, tell me you are joking about a high wattage power supply shortage!? If anything there are some cracking deals out there at the moment?!

Not at all, all the top brands are very low on stock, we've filled our boots to try and not e effected by it but demand on high end psu has exploded.

actually there really is a shortage on high wattage PSU's at the moment in Europe.

Antec are finding sales going through the roof on high end, the problem is that PSU's are heavy and expensive to ship, so all PSU shipments are done via sea, not air due to silly costs. This is the same for all PSU brands.
The increase in sales has resulted in shortages across Europe for most of the big PSU players in the market. Sea shipments take 4-5 weeks to travel from Asia to Europe and the manufacturing time for new orders can be anything from 3-6 weeks also. Depending on the backlog the factories have - remember most of the worlds PSU's come from a handful of factories.

Mining is definitely a big impact in this.

Gibbo is 100% spot on with what he says.

So do some lobby for Poland to make them a broad gauge railway line and whole EU will have cheaper and faster (2weeks vs 6weeks) land transportation from Asia ;-)

How there can be more demand on high power psu if everythng now consume less power than few years back, is everyone buying 7990?

Who knows, but many people are reportedly jumping on the bitcoin/litecoin bandwagon. So could well be running 3 or 4 high end AMD cards, per rig.

Prime example, Gibbo posted earlier this week that his friend bought 20 x 7990s from OcUK for mining. Having 2 of them in each rig would mean his friend would need 10 x high end PSU's.

This.

4x R9 290X in crossfire need a very good PSU, like 1200W area.
