Should/Can I Overclock?

I left prime95 running overnight on stock with new paste and it passed no errors. Minimum package temp was 36° and maximum was 73°.

So I will try now 4.2GHz @ 1.190v with cache at 4.1GHz and see if I get a better temperature than the previous 88-89°.

Is that the only 3 settings I need to change in bios?

What is your cache voltage?

When you increase multi over 42 you'll find it more difficult to keep the cache multi so close

Is cache multi not known as uncore in Gigabyte boards? I was told get my Core Multiplier to the best I can get then once its stable start upping the Uncore from 3.4 up to see what the best I can get it.

I ran a few tests in Prime95 this morning and these were the results:

4.2GHz @ 1.190 (Cache/Uncore 4.1GHz) - 37 min / 64 max (SYSTEM FROZE UP)
4.2GHz @ 1.190 (Cache/Uncore 3.6GHz) - 35 min / 92 max (I STOPPED IT DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURE)
4.2GHz @ 1.150 (Cache/Uncore 3.4GHz) - 36 min / 71 max (CORES 2 and 3 STOPPED, I STOPPED TEST BECAUSE OF IT)

After this and reading up a lot of people where telling me AIDA64 is much more realistic to use. So I am using that to test 4.2GHz @ 1.150 (Cache/Uncore 3.4GHz) to see what the results of that show compared to Prime95, will post the results.

Here is my result from AIDA64:

Never used AIDA so I only ticked the STRESS CPU tab, is that correct?
Maximum temperature of 71, completely different from Prime and I am assuming since nothing popped up warning me then it passed stable and I can try increasing the multiplier till I get mid 70s?

Ran INTELBURNTEST on Standard settings to compare and passed all 10 runs with maximum temperature of 76 degrees.

Please don't use Aida it takes ages to find errors. Use real bench if you find prime too hot.

Yes cache is uncore . You are correct to keep it at 36. I recommend you use hwInfo instead of hwmonitor it has more information.

Don't be afraid to take the front and sides off your case and open a window. You are stress testing and you'll never get these temps in real use. I test all the way up to throttle temp of 95 degrees but I understand if you don't want to go that high.

It could be your instability is from your input voltage being too low. What's it set at?

Also you dropped .04v that is a big drop and is why you had workers stopped.

Try 1.9 input
1.170 core
42 multi
36 uncore

Yeah vrin external override.. it was on auto I'll change that to 1.9 and run prime95.

Is it normal for the bios to open and run a bit sluggish after setting overclock settings?

Not for my mobo but I have an asrock

Maybe a full power off instead of a reboot will sort it

Giz

If you're ok with that temp increase voltage to 1.18

Does prime now say it's testing with avx and not fma3

Giz

It's been running for 20min and all cores still working and max is about 79 which is good. Sits at around 63 but never over 79.

So from here do I reduce voltage or increase multiplier or vrin?

Well 1.17 failed and 1.18 worked ( although I'd test a little longer) . You aren't ready to fine tune yet so I'd just raise the multi. Hopefully you'll get up to 4.4 with prime avx .

1.17 failed when I didn't have cpusupport in local.txt. It may work now.

But like even u say I'll leave it a little longer and if it stays stable I will increase multiplier till it fails and keep max temperature under what 90?
