Any advice would be appreciated.

I purchased a PC (From a large company) costing over £4500 it came with a 3 year warranty. 1st year onsite and years 2/3 RTB.

I am now in my 3rd year and one of the case fans have become faulty.

I emailed the company and sent a short video of the faulty fan. They agreed it was faulty and because it was under warranty they would replace the fan. BUT I have to install the fan myself.

I have had a look at the cabling etc and it looks like a big job. The fan is one of 3 on a h100i radiator.

Because its just a fan are they right to say I have to install the fan myself.

Or should I ask because it’s under warranty for it to be returned to them and they fit the fan properly by experts?.

if by installing the fan i would be asking if this will invalidate the rest of the warranty on the pc.

In all fairness its 4 screws and a connector to unplug.

Wiring a plug is more complex so if you can do that im sure you can replace it and i wouldnt expect any company to ask you to rma a whole pc for 1 fan!

In fairness if the rad needs to be taken out for better access to the screws it could turn into a big job for someone who isn't confident.

I'd be asking them to make use of the their return to base warranty and have them change it if you're not comfortable changing it yourself.

Unless the op is using woodscrews in a fan and rad i would be amazed if this invalidates the warranty given they are offering the part and telling him to do it

And what if he kills something with a static shock whilst he's in there? Will they replace the parts?

Well if you are tech illiterate you could have a point. Maybe even fan installation is too much and at the end of the day RTB is RTB. This is the problem with anything with fans be it a PC, Or them FALD monitors they all eventually break and this needs to be accounted for. Heck this is why my 1080 card was refunded by ocuk repair was simply not an option.

But do you really want to RTB? Think long and hard but if thiers anxiety about it that bad then RTB might be the only option. They are wrong though to expect you to DIY it though. They are doing this because they are lazy and know it is a fee for a small job. But it is also dishonest to say RTB and then ask someone to do it themselves.

It sounds to me like they have been a bit cheeky, And are chancing the cheap option. But you should also tell just who does that as at the end of the day tech illiterate people will be using them and expecting fans etc to be covered.

Good point, He should get the guarantee in writing.

Plenty of folk in the forum have built their own PCs so it may be worth while just to take a few photographs of your computer with the side panel off and include any areas which you're not sure about getting access to so you can change the fan over. We can all lend a bit of advice and talk yout through it. Obviously the cost of the PC is something you don't want to wreck by doing something wrong but there's a lot of knowledgable folk on here who can advise you accordingly.

I'd hope the company involved is competent enough to check how simple a job it is before asking a customer to do it.

It's probably 5minutes work replace the fan and to route the cabling like they did.

if you can change a light bulb, you can change a pc fan

Are they
Suggesting you could do it yourself?
Or insisting you must do
It yourself?
Bit of a difference between the two
Replace 1 fan sounds simple
But will you have to
Remove radiator?
Cut cable ties?
Connect fan leds?
Disconnect all the other fans wiring
If need to remove radiator?
Etc
Yeah it's simple to us as used
To doing this stuff
But you clearly aren't confident
About doing it
At the end of the day if it was
An item other than a pc
Say a car for example would you
Expect a company to say
We will send you the part you
Go ahead and fit it

Send it to OCUK to see how much they'd charge to fix the fan. Or you could ask a local IT place to replace the fan for you then send the bill to the supplier. Or ask if there is a local OCUK forum member who is local that could help.
Andi.

Nice posting the other thread, now OP just looks like a complete tool, he can move everything to a new case, but can not change a fan.......
