Should I be bothered?

Due to the nuisances of our dog earlier I was distracted enough to not notice my MBP slipping off the sofa slightly open and lid-first. Since then, it's developed a very very marginal, but slightly odd rubbing/scraping sound when opening the lid the first 10-20mm or so and never on closing it.

There is no physical damage at all to the thing, either externally or internally to the hinged areas when I opened up the bottom panel.

It's insured against damage, and it's also in warranty. Because it's such a minor issue I don't really want to go through the hassle of returning it to Apple to be looked at (nearest being Bristol). There's a premium reseller nearby but after what happened with my last MacBook at one in Plymouth I don't rate them as highly as Apple's own stores.

Would would anyone else do? More of a curiosity thing more than anything really.

How new is it?

You have admitted it was the result of user error and not a manufacturing fault so a bit cheeky to send it back, however, if it's fairly new (and you want to be cheeky) you could try and get away with sending it back and see if they repair it...

I wouldn't claim against insurance tbh... I would reserve that for when it is truly not working i.e. struck by lightening ;) or something to that effect :p ... the excess just wouldn't be worth it otherwise (not for a small scraping noise).

It's pretty new, only had it middle of May. My previous 2010 MBP suffered a constant SMC chip failure even after a new logic board (no I didn't drop it :p) and was given this in exchange.

Like I said, there is absolutely no physical evidence of it being damaged, so I'd imagine it's very very minor, if you look inside one of these things everything is packed so tight the jolt probably affected the clearances of one of the cables I can't see somewhere to make it start rubbing against the hinge when it opens. It's something you feel more than hear when opening it.

I've seen many people been given brand new iPhones for an utterly smashed screen even though that's clearly not a manufacturing defect ;)

I probably won't bother with, unless for instance the screen suddenly refuses to work etc.
