I AM A PC BUILDING NOOB
BUT I'm contemplating building my new pc myself but have reservations !
The most Ive done before is install new psu, Graphics card, ram, and dvd drive should I go for it or not ? My main concern I think ? would be installing operating system and configuring raid. Anyone offer any useful advice ?

It's just like a jigsaw but can be very frustrating at times.

Do you have access to a 2nd PC or close-by Internet connection if things go wrong?

EDIT: There are few good guides out there if you're worried link

As long as you read up how to do all that you will be fine. People on these forums will be happy to help you if you have any questions :) + its funs :D

yes, you really should go for it, its scary at first but its a great feeling and expericance when you do so....i was in the same possition as you and you can find loads of help. Do not worry, you should deff go for it....you will not look back!

:) thanks for the speedy and positive replies it does inspire me to go for it :) I do have this my old pc to use to ask questions so i suppose your all right I should just go for it and get my dream spec for less money eh :)

NOW then just gotta decide to go nvidia or ati graphics hmmmmmmmmm

Go for it. Most things can only go in one socket/slot/hole so its not like you can wire it all up wrong. Make sure you have all the bits, plenty of space/time and take it slow

So all you need to learn now is HDD, which is 4 screws, and the CPU which can only fit in one way to do, then your sorted. :D

as for OS, that's the easy part. although can be the most frustrating.

on another note, what sort of budget do you want, as for low low end PC's get them complete as you just cant beet some of these prices. if your looking to go mid to high £800-1200 seams like a good price range.

I'm gaining confidence by the minute :) I suppose the thing that scares me most is installing drivers and an operating system from scratch but hey I can read :)

puts you ahead of 95% of the population.
LOL like it
I suppose while im askin u guys could offer your opinion on 8800 sli v 3870x2 crossfire ????????

Oh yes another question If I buy all the components needed for a system do i need to buy any other cables / fixings etc

My budget is 1800 to 2000 and from what ive lokked at so far I reckon I would be saving £200 - £300 by building myself plus I just cant seem to get all the bits I want from one manafacturer

£2000 is a lot of money! You should be fine putting the computer together and installing the OS is just a matter of clicking a few buttons :)

my advise would be build your self, but mabie you should go buy an old pice of crap pc that you can strip down and re build, i would say thats the best way to learn.

Motherboards come with SATA cables and IDE cables for hard drives ect.
Screws come with the case.

Only time you need to by any cables if you go to full tower and the supplied cables may be to short. most mid towers you will be fine.

Right decision is made I'm gonna go for it :) thanks :) now just gotta finalise my decision on which way to go with graphics setup hmmmmmmm
