Would you mind explaining this EVGA step up program, do they give you a free upgrade? Also I really liked the EVGA ASC3 640mb 8800gs but it is £300 at overclockers, is that the one you were talking about?

Yea but its allot cheaper in other places.

Basically, you get this card for say £270, then if you feel you want to upgrade in a month to an EVGA 8800GTX, you pay the difference, so if the 8800GTX is £370, then you pay £100, I rekon you gotta pay for posting your 8800GTS ot EVGA tho.

Ive just ordered a ATI HD2900XT, and ive had nvidia all my life... Im Upgrading from the Geforce 7950GX2.

I have looked at all the pro's and con's to geforce 8800gts, gtx and the ati HD2900XT. I think for the money the ATI card is better than the gts and not far off the gtx.

In fact on some of the benchmark sites ive been on the ATI beats the gtx. Which for a card that is around £250.... WOW. Im just hoping that with better drivers the ATI will do even better.

Dont forget the geforce 8 cards have been around a lot longer that the HD2900XT...

Remember the x2900 has only got about 3-4 months to live before it goes out of production and the real R600's are released, also Nvidia's second gen cards are due around October/Novemberish, the 1 teraflop beasts, those should be in time for Crysis. :)

I thought the whole point of getting a top end card was to play games at there best well basically the top end cards cant play them at moment 40 fps in dirt isnt worth best part of 400 quid is it?All the big games are released in next few months ,crysis is massive and will be great, you got quake wars ,unreal tournement and lots of others a top[ end card should be able to play games at least 60 fps more really with everything maxed out in my eyes can a nvidia 88000 gtx do that in every game, no.Yes you could wait forever and never buy anything but theres not been a game to justify getting a 8800 series card since they been released.Be honest name a truly massive game that most pc owners have that requires the card. There isnt one.
i bet most people who have 8800 series cards either play something like cs or call of duty or some racing game thats 2 years old do you need 500fps in these older titles.

So whats the 2900XT ?? Fake ? Its the real deal and the original R600...So makes it the only R600 considering ATI are releasing it on a smaller process which will probably called R650...

Yes rumours are the R650 will also be redesigned, and will be the cards the x2900's should have been (the GTX killers), the x2900's have only been reelased as they needed to get a card out now, August/September would have been way to long for them to wait, that would have put them about 9 months behind Nvidia, so the x2900's have been slung out now to plug the gap.

Yeh and only a couple of mins for it to blue screen on my 8800GTX in vista, I think it’s shocking that in today’s hardware world that they cannot get a simple thing like drivers sorted, it really makes my head hurt to think that the companies like ATI/Nvidia can make a card and then bring out crap drivers someone needs to get the sack  and give themselves a kick up the backside.

As for what you should buy now, well.... go and buy a card NOW, when the 8800GTX/8800GTS came out everyone said they would wait for R600 (2900XT) then they waited and then they waited and waited some more and then when it did come out people then told them to wait for the 2900XTX or the new G82.

I'll get off my soap box in a mo but I think more of my money I spent on my 8800GTX (£400) should be spent on paying someone at Nvidia large amounts of money to get the DRIVERS right... :) before they even think about G82

Jesus, I made my mind on an EVGA ACS 8800GTS now, I am not sure again lol if I should buy an HD2900XT, ahh when is it going to end...

well im sorry i would save your money ive got a massive gut feeling that nvidia or ati are gunna drop something just in time for crysis everyones talking about upgrading for this game alone and is going to be a milestone for pc gaming. You only have to look at dirt and see that people with gtxs arnt getting high fps and i think that wont be the highest rig tester this year do you.i would really bite your nails for 2 months as thats when the big games start to appear. Also theres no way a 8800 gts will last 2 years maybe one how gamings going now days.

Thats why i didnt wanna pay £380 for a gtx, - 90 for my old gfx = £290

but if you look around theres bargains to be had ;) ive only paid £190 to upgrade :D

A brand new operating system and a brand new DX type, thats why so many people are gaming using XP, and as drivers go the latest NV ones are fine for me.
