Should I consider writing letters of intent for small claims proceedings?

Get Judge Rinder on the case.

But yes, soon as I had paper trail saying they owed me it, I would submit MoneyClaim.

"Hi xxx,

As you've already paid £150 of the £350 we agreed for the PC, could we meet up to discuss the remaining balance? I'm sure you appreciate that money is tight, so I want to keep this amicable please.

Thanks,

Acme"

This would be ideal. Non aggressive but to the point.

Its a difficult position you have put yourself in, all the more frustrating when you were doing your so-called friends a favour :(

Well you have no chance of getting anymore monies back. Regardless of who it is full payment or no goods.

For this your punishment is to poop through your own letterbox.

You might have to go all out and poo through their boxing stance from orbit.

In all seriousness though, I'd say up front that they need to keep to their agreements or give the computers back, sans any money they've already paid. I'd wait until you have them back to let them know about the sans money part though. Let them chase you for the money and see how they like it.

If you are thinking of going on money claim online they would expect you to have tried to resolve the issue before hand. So definitely write/email them, and log responses. I would do this for a week or two before putting in a claim.

"You owe me big time. Pay up by the 11th or I will send the boys around" :p

Simple, effective and never fails. ;)

Sorry, you can't say that any more, it's sexist.

You have to say, "I will send the boys OR the girls around".

If you are going to go legal, put everything in writing from now on. No texts, Facebook etc.

You will have to pay to use the small claims courts, but those are recoverable off them in the event you win.

Personally I'd put the kisses at the end rather than at the start :p

I would just go to their house and take the goods back, any bother just fill these idiots in with a few fists to the head, job done :)

If you use the online version of the small claims court (Money Claim Online) you get cheaper fees. So the OP would only pay £70 vs £85

What would I say exactly? "How much do you owe me again?" :p

Just hi, I appreciate that you've paid xx out of yy. Please could I ask when you will pay the remaining zz?

That way if they try to say it's never happened and you have proof of payment they're still stuck if it goes to court and any other response will pretty much acknowledge their guilt.

They have basically stolen the PCs. What I would do in your situation is say you want the rest of the money by the *date after their pay day* otherwise you'll go to the police. I would say it both verbally and in writing. I'm not sure how far Facebook chats will go as "evidence" but hey.

Never lend money to friends or family in any way, shape or form!

Learned this the hard way.

Just got hold of their addresses so that's good... One of them is meant to pay me £100 today, if that doesn't happen then that's letter #1. The other is meant to pay me £150 on the 9th, if that doesn't happen then that's letter #2...

Didn't want to have to play it this way... :(

So the first guy has sent over £100 and has stopped being a penis, which is good. Now just trying to get him to let me know when he'll send the rest...
