should I crossfire or wait for the r600

People just have to learn to take his posts with three packets of salt. :p

Just three packets? Need god dam lorry loads with the **** he posts. I still wonder why he is still here tbh.

Anyway, I'd wait for R600, it has to beat G80, because if it doesn't ATi should be kicked up the backside for having 4/5/6 extra months and then producing a sub performance card :eek:

nv owner here so let's get that clear before I commence.

ATI cannot I stress CANNOT launch the R600 without it topping what nv currently have on show, to do anything other than that would be financial suicide.

It will beat the G80's but by how much we can only guess, nobody at either ATI or AMD is going to permit them to launch a card which has had this much time given to it which does not compete with G80 in terms of either price or performance.

will R600 decimate the G80 I'd say not and if it did then tbh it's a moot point as the cream of G80's tend to be CPU limited and if we extrapolate that towards the R600 it's a case of throwing every penny you own at mobo/ram/cpu just to squeeze as much out of the GPU as possible.

where ATI could hit nv very very hard is in the mid/low end imagine a card which could offer say 80-90% of G80's power at 50-60% of it's cost. now that would be something to stir up interest in DX10 and would give ATI the breathing space it need's at the moment.

from the information I've gleaned on G80 from various reviews I'd say that it's overkill for 80% of pc owners, I'm not knocking it I think it's stunning but sadly we're now waiting for CPU's to catch up.

I think the wisest thing to do is hold out for what could be as little as 12 weeks and see what comes forth from ATI.

I agree you should wait for R600 , I'm an 8800 owner myself so i'm not biased towards ATI or anything , I've no doubt that r600 will be AT LEAST as fast as G80 and probably a little faster but I very much doubt ATI will release a mid range card at 80-90% power of g80 at 50-60% cost because with current cpu's their flagship product would only be 10% faster than it at this time , everybody would buy the midrange card.
Theyre not stupid , if its gonna be faster than G80 it will be 10-15% faster at most imo , but of course the big test for these cards will be DX10 games of which we know nothing atm , another thing , I don't think DX10 games will be hugely better than DX9 games other than relying more on GPU speed than cpu speed , probably more physics without the speed hit that this currently causes with DX9.
Again tho , its all speculation but we still like talking about it ;)

What he said is true, nobody from ATi confirmed the specs of the card. So don't out your hopes up too high for R600.

you would say that you own an 8800gtx, starting to panic are we :p ;).

9500, Ti4200 , 6800le it's already happened quite a few times in gpu history, with the right knowledge and an ounce or two of luck sometimes the mid's have been able to compete with their bigger bro's at a much cheaper price.

Good point but that's assuming that R600 is an equal match for G80, If the top end R600 series was 30% quicker than the top of the line G80 currently is then ATI could indeed mount such an aggressive pricing war.

e.g.

8800gtx = £350 incl vat scores 12,000 in 06 at stock

R60101 = £220 incl vat scores 10,000 in 06 at stock

That extra £130 could well buy some nice ram or even a tidy cpu upgrade giving someone a far better balanced system overall.

It's either that scenario or R600 comes out and hammers G80 by as much as 50% which as I said earlier is utterly pointless apart from e-peen waving as cpu limitations would rear their head big time.

i can see everyone crying and hiding for me when the r600 us unleased and its hardly matching up to the 8800gts.

also when r600 is released wait a few more months for the drivers to be around to use the card.

and by the time r600 is out it will be competing with G90 and then everyone who waiter for r600 will feel real silly.

all im saying now is don;t base your current gfx card purchase on r600's theoretical performance. you could end up dissapointed.

Oh don't get me wrong, I hope the 8800GTX owns it (Nvidia fanboy). :D :D

But c'mon, how likely is it with all the time ATI are taking?

But saying that, the X1800XT turned out to only be a smidgen faster than the 7800GTX. Ah well, have to wait and see.

tbh ati would have to out performe nvidia plus if the specs are true then atis would be expensive but if they know the market then they could see that having a dx10 card in mid-low range they could make a killing

G90 wont be out until start 08 at the earliest, so im not sure where you got that from.

G90 will be out 1 year after G80 was, so expect it sometime near the end of 2007. and the G80 refresh is out 6 months after the initial release of G80 so expect that around march/april time.

so ati may have to compete with the 8900gtx which is roumoured to be 65nm and gddr4, so not sure what to expect.

either way. if i were buying id get a card right now to enjoy during the holidays than wait and buy a faster card when im bak at work and don;t have the free time to enjoy it.

depends how people feel about thier choices and if they have constant free time or not.

its all rumours at the end of the day. R600 could end up being so powerful that not even G110 will beat it. but only time will tell.
