i had a free 40Gb ps3 from aol as i wanted to use it for blue rays but i havent hardly used it for games just the odd film now and then but im thinking would i be better selling it and sticking a blue ray drive in my pc that also runs though my TV when needed. my pc will easily handle the HD playback and is water cooled so is as quiet as my ps3. am i overlooking anything as it seems a no brainer?

I would just stick with the ps3 as its a good standalone player, and would be a lot less of a faff on than running it all through the pc.

thats what i personally would do, however if you think you might get some cash from it or something, then go for it :)

Well, I bought a ps3. Spent a while playing games, then stopped. Then used it as a media centre. At the moment as I have two monitors and am on the pc all the wime- I don't even use it as that.

Would I get rid of it? Hell no. Some fantastic games coming out, plus there is always the option of using it.

Well im happy having a pc for gaming and my pc will be running my freesat to my tv anyway so its no extra hassle. iv just had a 12 month driving ban so moneys gunna be tight for awhile. decided to stick it on the members market.

Moneys gonna be short, so im willing to trade my ps3 for a graphics card.

Lol! :D

1. Sell your PS3 blu-ray player and buy a graphics card that will be old tech and unable to run crysis well before you have even installed it into your PC.

2. Keep the PS3 and use its excellent dvd upscaling and ability to play blu-rays.

I know what my choice would be :D

£170 4870 runs Crysis very well actually. :D

BFor me it's £170 to run a pc game, that will not run the latest and next fangly dangly game in 1-1.5 years time with settings up high. PS3 will be there for many years and you can spend your time jsut gaming rather than tweaking to get a few extra fps etc.

Ive just gone off sitting infront of a small monitor, when gaming on a 50inch tv is much more fun and sociable.

Still doesn't stop me spending ages on TF2, one game that has mad graphics and is more fun than any other pc game out there.

For purely BD-playing purposes, the PS3 is a great choice due to the fact that it is far more future-proofed than most/all the current standalone players through firmware updates online. In theory the PS3 can only get better as a media centre and if they ever hack it properly or Sony properly support formats such as h.264 (I am not a PS3 buff so I may be way behind the times) it will be a great option.

Personally I wouldn't waste time buying bits for the pooter do do the same thing unless you really want to, been there, done that back in the early days of DVD for example, HW decoder cards, yada yada. The PS3 package just works for BD playback, you could find yourself becoming a tweak/update monkey if doing the same thing for BD playaback on the pc in comparison. Just my thoughts.

well the thing is i have a 40" and a soon to be 24" screens running. i really arnt interested in ever using the ps3 for games i solely got it as a blue ray player. tbh my minds made up and its for sale. i dont hardly use it so kinda wasted sat there.

Keep it :) You've got a future-proofed BR player and a good media centre to boot. On top of that it's actually quite good at upscaling DVDs. I shall be buying one in a couple of months and it's not for the gaming ability.

well i haven't touched a dvd in months. any film right now other than the blue rays i own are .avi's on my pc anyway. it may be future proof but to me the little difficulty of running blue rays off a pc far are acceptable.

Sell it then. It sounds like you are trying to convince yourself you don't need it, if that is the case just sell it.

EDIT: Sorry, just saw you are selling it.
