Just a basic query really, i have a 4.2ghz i7 and a 4870x2 and i feel as if games dont run as well as they should, and i have no idea how to go about whether i am right or not.

Take the likes of Aion for example, at 1900x1200 (my native res is 2560x1600) my game wont run as well as it does for a friend who has far lower computer specs (3ghz c2d and a 4870).

Is there any way i can find out if there is any truth behind what i think?

All units are different so other peoples specs can sometimes out do yours even if its the same or even a bit worse.

Most that i've spoke to him about thus far at least anyway, i understand the performance drop at 2560x1600 but at the lower resolutions it should be fine, no?

I'm regretting the 30" monitor more and more ;p

Will check forced settings though i'm sure its set to let application choose (on netbook atm).

As for the second GPU, how can i test that?

Thanks

Yea my drivers are pretty old when compared to his :D only got 8.573.0.0 on here at the moment really should update them.

Hopfully someone on here can help him out with this issue.

When did you last do a clean install of Windows? And which version of Windows are you running? The biggest performance impact I find on PC's is the time since last fresh install, a new clean rig versus a more powerful one with a messy registry can make all the difference.

Only three things spring to mind;

1. Check to see if you've disabled turbo mode on your i7 core, I've heard that after about 3.3GHz the 920 starts to have trouble with it's turbo o/cing, that might be causing issues.

2. As said above, various settings in CCC might not be set right, so have a look at them and be sure to save your profile on there.

3. Your psu might be inadequate, I think a 800-1000w psu would be advised to be running and i7 at such high clocks and also an effective 2 4870's. Try lowering your i7 clocks if a new psu isn't an option; it's an i7 either way so it'll rip through anything you give it =D
