I know someone who is a 'international sales manager' at Apple and so can get me 30% off all apple products.
Now i dont really want to spend iMac money even with the discount so i started looking at the Mac Mini.
At the moment i have:
Phenom II 720 BE
2gb ddr2
8800gts
640gb+500gb

The Mac Mini faster than this?
Does anyone have a mac mini? how do they find it? etc
Also with me wanting to run windows 7 also can i do that? whats the easiest way?
Thanks guys.

Even with 30% off I still wouldn't be tempted to buy the Mini, although as a first Mac you could do a lot worse. As mentioned if you're just going to stick Windows on it and run photoshop there isn't much point because you're not going to see hundreds of pounds worth of performance improvement over what you have now. You might as well buy an SSD and another stick of RAM for your PC and have lots of spare change.

Stick with the PC.

The Mac mini is a great product for someone who wants a first Mac, a Mac for general use or a small format machine for media centre duties. Unfortunately it's lost its way since it's £299 introduction and is overpriced, even with the discount stated.

Hmm! now let me think about that one, overpriced you say? Sim free iPhone4 around £600, for a bit of a phone - Mac Mini, fully fledged OS X computer for £649. I'm dammed sure I know which I would rather have.

If I had my choice again I would get a Mini over my iMac, it's a great little piece of kit.

Thanks. I've got a 2009 mini - the one before the comedy prices. That cost around £450 18 months ago. IMO The current one is in no way worth an extra £150, even after last weeks £50 price drop.

No arguments over it being a great little piece of kit. It just needs to be £450 or lower.

I've also got an iPhone 4, but that's an entirely different argument!

hmm i am quite torn here!
I may just like suggested on here upgrade my pc a little.
I might go for a iPad though and a apple keyboard as i need a new one :)
Thanks guys.

I/we got MacMinis about a month ago for development. Have to say I've always been an anti-Mac person (in a fun fanboy way, just think they are very overpriced).

I'm using it more and more each day, and am seriously considering saving for a MBP for my own personal use.

If you're just using it from Photoshop then don't really see the point, but if you're wanting something to 'test the waters' with a Mac then personally I think it's a great piece of kit. Very small footprint, immensely reliable.

I'm very 'nearly' converted to be honest!

I think now you can see how Apple have priced their products in each segment you can see the logic of the pricing even if you are still unhappy about it.

iPhone4 around £600 iPad a similar average price, then the base iMac at £999. The Mini fits nicely into the pricing segments.

When the latest prices were announced everyone howled that the Mini was far to expensive. Now having seen the price of the iPhone and iPad the Mini begins to look pretty cheap and excellent value for money. In fact like a few reviews I have read recently about the Mini I too think it is probably the best value Mac of the whole range.

The convenience of the Mac Mini form factor should not be overlooked. It tucks away out of the way and has everything you need in it. Runs silent and quiet, a fantastic little thing.

I was under the impression the mini came with a mouse and keyboard :(
Having to buy that has put me right off and plus i have been looking round today and can do a lot better pc in ITX for less!
Thanks guys for your help anyways.

There is no way any sane person could justify the cost of the mac mini. Try, I dare you............

Of course you can but you aren't talking about the same things are you. A mini is a specialised small form factor computer not a £400 budget metal box.

Well tbh the case i was going to use looks better than the Mac Mini and it is certainly better all round imo.
I do see where you coming from though!
Guys a quick question. I know if you have OSX you can get programs like parallels? which means you can install windows7? Is there anything that does this so if i have win 7 as the main, i buy OSX and install it and have it parallels? or does it only work for OSX-Win7 not Win7-OSX

Pics? I've never seen a PC case look anywhere near as good as anything Mac.

As for OSX on a virtual machine, I don't think we're allowed to discuss it as running OSX on non-mac hardware goes against their EULA.
