it's only £40 less than a new one with HE discount
£40 is £40, every little helps. I'm not a high-earner. Don't know anyone who could get me an HE discount either. This was £649 a few weeks ago. I could have got an early/late 2009 model 2nd hand one off the bay or somewhere for a hundred or so less, but they rarely have any warranty left, and the ones that do sell for even more £.
Got the Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard for £70 as well, so in all I've made a decent saving from normal retail price.
Anyway, it's the cheapest way to get a proper Mac new (refurb 21.5"'s can be had for £849 but this will work out cheaper even with Apple peripherals and a bigger screen... if I can pick one!) and as I want to put a Windows gaming machine together too, the fact the Mini takes up virtually no room means I can still stick a full tower somewhere as well and that is good.
Also the 21.5" iMac can't be removed from it's stand, and I want to run two monitors on a mount eventually - IPS one for most things, 120hz TN for ze games - so this again is working out better.
Oh yeah, slightly off-topic here but I wouldn't mind bumping the RAM up at some point from 2GB. I can probably get either a matched 4GB or 8GB set for a decent price, but I'm sure I read somewhere that although it recognises 8GB (and says in the manual it can take it) if you use more than 4GB everything slows down. Can't find that article/post/thing anywhere though. Any Mini users using a lot of RAM? Experiences?
