I've been mulling over this laptop since its release, I love it. But that doesn't mean its worth the money.

I've been to see it on a few occasions, but most recently when I went to pick up my new 3G iPhone.

See, I was all caught up in this Asus EEE frenzy, but damn the keyboard is too small and linux sucks balls big time! (So does XP). So my thoughts wondered back over to the MBA.

Now, spec wise it isn't a killer, but in context it is very good for whats required of it. I even tested the new Bond HD (720p) on it while in store and it was spot on. The screen beats all those notebooks from Asus, Acer etc.

Now I am well aware this is more of a want, then actual need. But if I want it, I usually get it.

Uses? Not having to sit in front of the main machine, to relax on sofa/bed and watch tv shows and surf. Get myself some good bluetooth headset and I can happily sit around using it.

This Mac Pro is a power house, but damn it warms my room up so much I feel like it really is summer (is it?). Main role of it is gaming, and encoding (which is damn fast).

So basically, am I talking myself into it? I believe the answer is...YES.

What do you think?

Well tbh its probably gonna be a big ol' waste of money! But thats not really the point is it? If you like it that much then why the hell not!

I'm wondering if I can justify it too, at the moment I don't think so. I think we've done to death the mba's flaws but...

My problem is it's thin but not very small or very light in comparison to other options. There are a lot of alternatives which are smaller, lighter and have better battery life.

Compared to some configs of a Lenovo x60 (or whatever the latest version is), it's bigger in footprint, the same weight, not as good in terms of battery life and expensive. It's a lovely machine and I want one but I can't justify it...

Well you've written down the arguments against it and you're still considering it so it doesn't look like you'll be talked out of it. You can always earn more money, right?

So... you've talked yourself into buying one and now need to good people of the forum to back you up; giving you confidence you've made the right decision..

Shame on you - hit "buy" now! Remember buying a mac is about bein individual (that way you can justify anything and not have to answer to anyone!).

If you just want something to surf on whole watching the TV why don't you just save some money and get a MacBook!?

Wait until Snow Leopard.. SSD would have dropped significantly, so for the money you'd have a faster laptop at the same cost as the current base model.

Macbook > Air

This is just what I needed, thank you! :p

It's a very good point, half the prices, twice the performance, still very portable...

If you want the Macbook Air and you've got the cash then go for it I suppose but it's not something you'll ever be able to justify in terms of value for money...

As said before, I got a MacBook Air as I got work to get it. There was though chance I would've bought it myself before. HOWEVER, having had it since launch, I probably would buy one now. Yes the MacBook is just as capable and Pro more so.... but... it's just so light. The number of times I've fallen asleep with it on my lap is just scary. Well, no, waking up and grabbing it quickly is scary.

Depends on what you really need it for, imho, for what you are getting its quite the price tag!

But if you really want it then no matter what anyone says it you can't change a persons mind.
