Should i get Vista?

Same things people said about Win98 and XP.

How many are still running 98 as their main OS....

Same with Vista, at the moment I believe XP has the overall edge but has slowed down where as Vista is only just getting started. Might as well put up with the few small niggles it has for a few months at most and then reap the benefits as it scream past XP in almost every way.

I'm trying out Vista at the moment. For usual Windows stuff it seems fine. For HTPC the superfetch also. But for gaming I would still choose XP.

Unless you can show with latest drivers (ATI 7.7) every single game has identical framerate.

My HTPC has XP MCE, only because ATI X300 in that has problems with Vista, drivers work but video/audio is out of sync. In XP it's fine.

Only reason to choose it for gaming is if you have very old 16 bit games you must play, personally I have never had any issues with any 32 bit games and believe me I have thrown a lot of games both old and new at my Vista x64,really great for 32 bit games etc...

Vista x64 here. Looks much better than XP and feels faster and more responsive. Game performance is slightly ropier but I still prefer the feel of Vista overall.

Just gone back to Vista. Multi-tasking just seemed slower. When copying large directories it just sits there "calculating" then if you cancel it another minute saying "cancelling" also deleting a short cut takes 30 seconds. Other things like copy confirmation, tell it once to overwrite all and it pops back up again.

must admit, game play on ghost recon is not as smooth, however the 8800 gts drivers are very "young" and im sure in a few months it will be sorted out with a new driver.

As for everything else, Vista just seems so smooth and easy to use... more like a Mac osx than xp.

I like it a lot, and can put with a few minor issues, like the frame rate of games, which are still totally playable, just not as smooth as on Xp (yet)

I certainly dont see it as a waste of money... I have had no 32bit software issues so far.

There is a hotfix for this, and recently 2 beta hotfixes to cure this and a few other glitches. (I can confim my file transfers are now a lot quicker :) ).

Done all latest updates, plus those two betas. I was doing some pretty heavy multi-tasking, installing two games at once, spybot scan, copying files from HD to HD, winamp...and PC not acting normally - the system was halting ever few seconds, even mouse couldn't work (in XP it'll still continue working and be able to use it ie net whilst heavy CPU/HD I/O is in the background)

Vista all the way, getting the same fps in a good number of games and better fps in most thanks to the latestest two patches from ms.

I did type a lot more but the damm proxy gave a 404 and i lost it all :(
